Foreign minister Zarif's oped in the NYT - interesting perspective

Obviously, he is hyping Iran's positive outreaches while exaggerating the negative actions of everyone else, but it is a very interesting piece. It is sad that as Iran itself voted for the more moderate candidate - and Zarif's description aside, Iran is not a democracy and it has aided terrorists on its own side. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/26/opinion/us-saudi-arabia-arms-deal-iran.html

However, it is absolutely true that Saudi Arabia has been the source of funding for both Al Qaeda and ISIS.

I should note that it is NOT just Trump pushing towards action against Iran, the SFRC ignored the Obama administration people, including Kerry, who lobbied them NOT to increase sanctions at this point -- and it was a Corker/Cardin bill, strongly supported by people like Tim Kaine. It is beyond sickening to see Democrats - pushed by AIPAC and the fear of being called weak on terrorism risking the Iran nuclear deal.

What seems clear from Trump's Saudi Arabia trip is that we are now going to lead - or follow Saudi Arabia's lead in the fight between Shia and Sunni. Oddly, this is being done under the banner of fighting terrorism. This, even though there have been far more more instances of Sunni based terrorism.
