It was Trey Gowdy and Jason Chaffetz that put pressure on Comey to release the emails. In my opinion, they had their hands on the scale when Comey was investigating Hillary's emails.

Gowdy & Chaffetz & probably 80% of the gop in the congress & house are all on the Trump-Pac payroll.

So the argument that Trump is paying off Gowdy may be a bit of a stretch. Certainly groups supporting Trump are contributing to Gowdy. Not sure how much of a case can be made that Gowdy recuse himself based on that.
