Did he apologize to Jacobs for not only assaulting him without provocation, but also defaming Jacobs in that craven statement to the press that it was Jacobs who attacked him and not the other way around?

I hope Jacobs sues the shit out of him.

Pesky tape made their narrative false. They just start over, redefining reality anew, "That wasn't me, I'm not like that, I'm great and good." And the dog whistle "that reporter" of course alludes to Ben Jacobs' religious and political preferences. He just had to dog whistle Ben Jacobs a few times before finally saying his name.

All the denial in the world won't change that, but he has to do it to make himself feel better about himself.

You lied and tried to blame the reporter for your man-baby loss of control. It's now a bit too late to show honor, asshole.

Judge: 30 days in the county jail to cool off and two years probation ought to help you learn your lessons. I only wish that this was felonious assault, because I could then have asked you to surrender your firearms. Deputy, take him away!

in an attempt to save his public image.

Damni Mathers, playboy model who body-shamed 70 year old woman by posting a nude picture she took of the woman at a gym, used the same phrase after she was busted.

Many others have also used the phrase. It must be the standard advice of paid reputation managers.

It signals that the perpetrator is mainly concerned about his own public image, the the harm he or she has done.
