especially with a guilty plea.
Article follows:
An Atlanta man involved in the Nov. 30 burglary of the Simply Mac store in Peachtree City has received 25 years in prison.
Johntavis Bailey, 24, last week in Fayette County Superior Court pled guilty to smash and grab burglary, theft by receiving stolen property, fleeing and attempting to elude officers, use of a license plate to conceal identity and obstruction of an officer, according to District Attorney Ben Coker.
As a result of the trial in Judge Fletcher Sams court, Bailey was sentenced to 25 years with the first 20 years to be served in prison, said Coker.
Coker said Bailey pled guilty to backing a stolen car into Simply Mac in Peachtree City on Nov. 30 and engaging officers in a high-speed chase after the burglary.

(16,903 posts)much time. We don't rehabilitate in this country, we just put people in jail and throw away the key. This is god-awful.

(46,337 posts)The guy drove a STOLEN car into the store, causing a huge amount of damage.
Second, I don't know, and there is no listing of whether the guy has a criminal record from previously.
More than likely he does.
And not just petty crimes like shoplifiting.
I see videos on the news of these types of "smash and grab" crimes quite often, a stolen car is driven into a store front, and the burglars go in with hammers and smash anything and everything to grab the loot.
This guy deserved the sentence.

(73,559 posts)But the article does provide enough information to indicate this was not a simple burglary. More, it does not provide the background information -- including what, if any, criminal record this young man has. One could speculate that it is unlikely that this was the guy's first offense.

From the looks of it they dropped multiple charges and allowed him to plea to the lesser charges. Apparently he was already on probation and his crew was also suspected in other "smash and grabs".
