If youve seen Wonder Woman which, you should, because its wonderful (Im sorry) its very clear that Diana (Gal Gadot), princess of the fictional island of Themyscira, is not an American girl. While its a little unclear where exactly the island of the Amazons is located, her origin is heavily rooted in Greek mythology. Whether she was molded from clay by her mother, Hippolyta, and given life by Aphrodite in the original comic or by Zeus in the film, she has no reason to immediately pledge allegiance to the Red, White, and Blue.
Despite this, Fox News decided to gripe and immediately decry this decision as anti-American. On Fridays Your World with Neil Cavuto, guest Dion Baia went in on the films apparent lack of patriotism.
I think, nowadays, sadly, money trumps patriotism. Especially, recently, I personally feel like were not really very patriotic, the country, in a certain sense. They want these movies to succeed internationally, so theyre going to dial back.
The group also bemoaned the fact that her costume was red, blue, and gold, and panel member Mike Gunzelman even quipped, I think the Hollywood aspect, we see this time and time again, its cool to hate America these days. So, apparently just having Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), the heroic second lead, be American means that you hate the old Stars and Stripes. Fox News always needs new fodder for the outrage machine, but this feels like a real stretch.

And who gives a fuck if she is an American or not. That is the dumbest thing ever. It's a movie. It's fun. They are always looking for something to bitch about.

(16,160 posts)Gal Gadot was well cast in the role.
I wonder if there isn't an undercurrent of anti-Semitism in their complaints, since Gadot is Israeli.

(53,987 posts)It is also in those who are boycotting the movie for that very reason (her being Israeli...wink, wink), and it isn't just the right!

(5,914 posts)Given that Wonder Woman is smart, brave, kind, and caring, she certainly doesn't represent any qualities that Americans seem to value anymore... particularly Fox News.

(10,279 posts)screeching about the liberal's war on Christmas. So, let me try to start it. How can anyone defend a holiday that really celebrates greed and selfishness, by exchanging crap made in China? We could do better by forgoing that and giving the money that would be spent to the desperately poor. That would make us a better people. Let's rename Christmas. I like national Poor Day.
