All taxes are bad.

That is the belief of the Republican Party. No amount of tax cuts are ever enough.

Democrats believe that some taxes are good. They are necessary to have a modern society. The question is how modern do we wish to be?

Do we want a modern military? Do we want good roads and bridges? Do we want a first-class rail and transportation system? Do we want an affordable and equitable healthcare system? Do we want the very best educational system in the world? All of these cost money. Which are you willing to pay for? Obviously, if we continue to cut taxes like the Republicans want, we will not be able to afford any of these, including a strong defense.

We cannot agree with the Republicans that all taxes are bad. Some taxes are good. Democrats should not be afraid of the "tax" word. They should stop running from that word. Some taxes are necessary and they should be paid in a fair way by everyone. Those that have done well in our economy and can afford to pay more should pay more. Sooner or later, Democrats are going to have to face these demons. Why not now?

Obviously, they believe it is a losing political issue to talk about taxes. They let the Republicans take sole possession. Democrats tepid response to taxes as necessary for America remaining a strong nation on the world's stage is harmful to our Party and our nation.

"Taxes" is not an X-rated word. They are necessary for a civil society. We cannot continue to fight something with nothing. We cannot continue to be silent on the tax issue. We can crouch in the corner and hope it disappears but it will not. We will die in that corner.

Empire Sized Military - No

Domestic Defense Sized Military - Yes

Single Payer Healthcare - Yes

Wall Street Watchdogs - Yes

All of the above and more can be paid for by reducing the military from empire sized to domestic sized.

but the taxes we do have should be "lower, flat and broad" (from Rmoney's 59 step plan to destroy America).

What does that mean? Well based on Republican history, since Rmoney has not given specific details.

Broad - since we do tax continuously upward this must mean move down, so everyone pays taxes, no matter how little you make. Remember McConnell telling us how 50% of Americans don't pay taxes?

Lower Flat - rather than have a 10%, 15%, 25%, 28%, 33%, and 35% brackets they go for a 20% or so tax rate. Well those paying 35% this is a nice cut, but if you made 10% you get an increase. Remember the broad, so they are not wanting to start taxing at $35,000 or $50,000. They want to tax from $1 while having a flat tax, to not raise taxes on the lower incomes this would have to mean a 9% or lower rate.

And, they say they will balance the budget and lower the deficit. How? Impossible? No. You cut something else. Benefits. Good bye, EPA, Department of Education, Department of Transportation, Department of Health and Human Services just to name a few. Department of Defense is safe and Homeland Security safe the rest should be prepared for massive cuts or being eliminate totally.

Until, Rmoney give a real plan I can't but go with history. History has shown us what the Republicans want.
