Slate - "Today's Impeach-O-Meter: Three Things Happened to Trump Today That Were Bad"

http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slatest/2017/06/05/trump_impeachment_chances_tri_pronged_bad_news_edition.html

By Ben Mathis-Lilley

A few unrelated things happened today that were bad for Trump's chances of successfully finishing his term.

The Atlantic's McKay Coppins, who is well-sourced in Trumpworld, published a piece in which people close to the president speculate that it's possible that one of the many flunkies and weirdos circulating around Trump's 2016 campaign could, without his knowledge, have engaged in some sort of Russia-connected scheming that might fairly be called "collusion." To be clear, the sources don't say they're aware of any such activity—but the fact that they admit it's possible is a pretty good sign that, well, it's possible.

FiveThirtyEight launched an aggregator that tracks how Americans are responding to a standard poll question about how they would vote in a congressional election between a generic Democrat and a generic Republican. This question turns out to be highly predictive of national seat gains and losses—and, per FiveThirtyEight, the Democratic party is currently in better position for midterm gains than any other minority party since their data begins in 1942.

The Intercept published a post about an NSA report which concludes that Russia tried to hack into the computers of more than 100 U.S. voting officials in November 2016. That's the same Russia to which Trump recently disclosed top-secret Israeli intelligence.

On Friday, I raised our meter reading to 40 percent, but that was a move born of whimsy and optimism. Today, that 40 percent seems a lot more solid.

The most likely scenario is that 5 months before the House elections they will push the button and bring forth a well financed rehabilitation of Pence and a joint Pence/House/Senate that will pass some middle class tax, and other items that will get 60 votes in the senate.

Trump will no longer be around so a revolt against Trump will no longer be relevant. They will reset the fall election having done the "courageous" thing and put country above Party.

They will still lose in the election but they will avoid the catastrophic fall off the cliff that they would be stuck with Trump.

The donor class of the Republican Party don't like Trump, his goons, his cabinet and so on.

The donor class of the Republican party is not stupid and they are not going to go to the polls with this clown. It may not be impeachment, it might be a forced resignation.

donor class which has been remarkably well coordinated over the last two decades is going to reverse it's practice and become passive.

All you have to do is look at organization like ALEC to see that the financial supporters of Republican policy remain well coordinated and highly effective. The suggestion that these highly inventivized, well organized, well staffed organizations are going to let an usurper undue their very effective work is the fantasy.

1. If some Republicans in the House think they will get more mileage (i.e. be better supported--and be more likely to be re-elected--by their constituencies) if they support impeachment, they could join the Dems on this issue. It's not impossible, especially if Trump's poll numbers really crater. In some districts, it may actually benefit them to show their independence from Trump. It's not like there's any danger that they will be yielding the Presidency to the other party, there will still be a Republican president, even if Trump were removed, which, as I said, is by no means a foregone conclusion from impeachment anyway. And it could be done with as few as 24 Republican switchers, which is only 10% of them. They could retain 90% solidarity with Trump and still gather enough votes to impeach.

2. If that doesn't happen, all the impeachment related talk and activity could still function to lay the ground for impeachment in 2018 when it's not entirely inconceivable that the House could switch from Republican to Dem control.

The fact that they haven't come out for it at this point does not mean they would resist if supporting circumstances continue to grow.

Right now he is out of control and probably in a mental frenzy. I don't think he can last much longer, He will quit in a huff, claiming that the courts and the media are out to get him.

He spends all his time watching TV and worrying about his ratings. He even staged a meaningless media event, signing fake documents today. His mental abilities never moved beyond the Apprentice. it's going to be a good final show. Trump - YOU'RE FIRED!
