Newark Charter School Steals Taxpayer Funds to Pay Rent on Empty Building

THIS is what they are doing to 'fix' our schools?

Where is the tea party on this? Talk about waste of taxpayer money in the private sector. What. the. Fuck.

And they complain about health care being a waste of money? and Teachers are paid too much, but this is AOK?

A lease on the property at 15 James St. in downtown Newark says there’s a charter school here, teaching children in kindergarten through sixth grade. But a visitor to the building on a regular weekday walks through empty rooms where there are no desks, no books and nary a sign that any education goes on here.

Finally you ask, “So where are the kids?”

State investigators are asking the same question.

They have concluded the state sent Adelaide Sanford Charter school hundreds of thousands of dollars to lease the James Street building over the past 16 months.

It’s paying a lot of rent, state records of the lease show.

Between 2009 and 2011, when the school’s leadership renegotiated its rental agreement to add the James Street location, annual rent increased nearly 50 percent from $420,000 to $624,000.
