So, Comey will testify.

(26,060 posts)untwist your knickers and stop ascribing magical powers to degenerate donnie. There is no way he'd win an EP battle and was finally convinced of that yesterday. Comey will be testifying on Thursday.

(2,050 posts)Lawrence was describing how stupid it was for 45 that he wasn't going to claim executive priveledge.
I kept think "shut up" "shut up", don't give him any ideas!, I figured if people kept saying that 45 may get the hint it wasn't going to go well for him if he didn't claim EP.
I don't know 45's reason for staying quiet but I hope he does, we don't need any more drama from the drama queen in charge.

(13,933 posts)I think that his game plan, such that it is, is to bluster, lie and attempt to discredit Comey. The republicans on the panel will help.

(68,868 posts)that in reality Comey will be able to answer with ease.

(985 posts)The effectiveness will all depend on how much Comey chooses to reveal and whether he feels he needs to withhold comment on things that are under investigation. He should certainly want to set the record straight on the things that Trump was stupid enough to make public statements on.
But, I'd love to have Al Franken, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren on the intelligence committee to fire up some dramatic questioning. The crew that's there isn't the most high octane and Joe Manchin is basically a Republican. I'm not sure whether being designated as "ex-officio" means that you get ask questions or not. Jack Reed & Schumer would be pretty pointed questioners.

(1,089 posts)That would only increase the scrutiny on this whole disaster, which only shortens the time between now and when President Shitstain finally cracks for good. If he thinks he's under a lot of heat now, doing something that shit-all stupid would make right now look like a picnic in the park, complete with burnt steak and ketchup and people peeing on him.
I don't think he's going to try to stop this. I do think he's going to try to distract with his dancing buffoon act via Twitter and other outlets, which comes quite naturally to him.

(14,565 posts)It would be a benefit to our side if Trump fearfully took action to prevent Comey's testimony. I'm referring to his approval rating and ability to resume his agenda.
Most likely it will be a carefully worded tentative session that allows Trump and Trumpeteers to claim victory and witch hunt.

(68,868 posts)He could maybe persuade the Senate committee to cancel the hearing, but unlikely.
He has no legal authority to stop the Senate from hearing testimony from a private citizen. None.

(739 posts)So if cancelled, they could fill the whole time with talking heads and, if he agreed, live interviews of Comey!

(7,814 posts)multi-faceted, unclear set of issues and narrow it down to one aspect or one event. The momentum and headlines now depend on what one man says in front of the TV on thursday. Before Thursday, there are all kinds of journalist investigations, two congressional investigations, one independent investigation, GOP congress critters who are silent or measured, an FBI investigation (without a director), and headlines every day about new info because nothing exculpatory exists yet. A lot of questions in everyone's minds. After Thursday? Who knows...
Much is at risk here for those trying to shed light on obstruction, collusion, money laundering, compromat, and espionage. Comey will likely be VERY careful and measured not only because some questions might require classified answers, not only because Comey is measured falling out of bed in the morning...but also because Moeller doesn't want him out in front ahead of his own investigation. Unlikely we will learn anything new on Thursday. GOP congresspersons will ask about leaks. Dems will ask penetrating questions and get limited answers.
And headlines next day from the WH, fox, and 90% of talk radio will be: 'COMEY FAILS TO PROVIDE EVIDENCE OF OBSTRUCTION OR COLLUSION'. it will give congressional investigators something to hang their hats on when slowing down investigations. The rest of GOP congress will, for once, abandon their silence and go on the record about there being no evidence.
that's all the RW media and GOP want...is a talking point and chance to fool their base again.
