Drunken boating.
Every year around this time people get into a boat, which is harder to control than a car, since they have no brakes, get plowed and crash.
Happened again not far from me.

(30,481 posts)I would go as far as to say it's equally as bad and irresponsible.

(1,257 posts)How about that?
I can't tell you how many times I have almost been done in by some idiot texting while driving.
I believe that I saw some statistics about that somewhere.
Of course, driving a country under the influence of *Rump is far worse than any of it!

We keep chewing out one of my relatives, she won't stop texting and driving.
Has had several fender-benders and tickets.

(31,464 posts)...is driving the car, or steering the boat. NOTHING else.
Technology will eventually trickle down. We are fortunate enough to own a new car that we can talk to. No texting. If a message comes in, Hal will read it to me, never have to look away from the road. I can call anyone by talking to my steering wheel. It's a brave new world. But if you're still driving a 2001 Saturn, maybe not so much.

(16,245 posts)There is no license requirement and a boating course is only required if you are under a certain age. And it isn't even enough. People think they can go as fast as they want; they have no idea how to navigate or operate at night (like that Miami Marlins pitcher last year. Idiotic behavior in a boat KILLS.)
Any idiot can go buy a boat and have it in the water immediately, no experience required. We don't do that for cars, why should boats (or jetskis) be exempt from licensing? I'm guessing the power boat lobby.
As for enforcing DUI on the water, it is difficult because there are not nearly enough game wardens (or marine patrol or whatever the equivalent is) on the water for the number of vessels.
