Corker stunned by Trump's tweets on Qatar

http://thehill.com/policy/defense/336557-foreign-relations-chairman-stunned-silenced-by-trumps-qatar-tweets

Reporter asked Corker about Trump’s tweets on Qatar:

Corker said he hadn't see the tweets. Then the reporters told Corker ---

...."Trump accused Qatar of being a state sponsor of terrorism, Corker responded, in a notably lower register, “The president?”

Reporters responded yes, and five seconds of silence later, Corker followed up: “When did that occur?”

Told that it happened Tuesday morning, Corker stood silent for about another 10 seconds.

“I, um, I want to go back and see specifically what he has said,” Corker finally said."

9. Never forget that Corker was part of the group that met with Gingrich

the night of President Obama's inauguration to plot how they would obstruct him at every turn and undermine his presidency in every way possible. It makes his complicity and cooperation with the incompetent and debauched sexual predator currently squatting in the White House all the more reprehensible.

http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/1452899

"As President Barack Obama was celebrating his inauguration at various balls, top Republican lawmakers and strategists were conjuring up ways to submarine his presidency at a private dinner in Washington.
............

According to Draper, the guest list that night (which was just over 15 people in total) included Republican Reps. Eric Cantor (Va.), Kevin McCarthy (Calif.), Paul Ryan (Wis.), Pete Sessions (Texas), Jeb Hensarling (Texas), Pete Hoekstra (Mich.) and Dan Lungren (Calif.), along with Republican Sens. Jim DeMint (S.C.), Jon Kyl (Ariz.), Tom Coburn (Okla.), John Ensign (Nev.) and Bob Corker (Tenn.). The non-lawmakers present included Newt Gingrich, several years removed from his presidential campaign, and Frank Luntz, the long-time Republican wordsmith. Notably absent were Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) — who, Draper writes, had an acrimonious relationship with Luntz.

For several hours in the Caucus Room (a high-end D.C. establishment), the book says they plotted out ways to not just win back political power, but to also put the brakes on Obama’s legislative platform.

“If you act like you’re the minority, you’re going to stay in the minority,” Draper quotes McCarthy as saying. “We’ve gotta challenge them on every single bill and challenge them on every single campaign.”
.........

Show united and unyielding opposition to the president’s economic policies. (Eight days later, Minority Whip Cantor would hold the House Republicans to a unanimous No against Obama’s economic stimulus plan.)....(more)

Following joint military operations during Operation Desert Storm in 1991, Qatar and the United States concluded a Defense Cooperation Agreement that has been subsequently expanded. In April 2003, the U.S. Combat Air Operations Center for the Middle East moved from Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia to Qatar’s Al Udeid Air Base, southwest of Doha, the Qatari capital.

Al Udeid and other facilities in Qatar serve as logistics, command, and basing hubs for the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) area of operations, including Iraq and Afghanistan. In spite of serving as the host to a large U.S. military presence, and supporting U.S. regional initiatives, Qatar has remained mostly secure from terrorist attacks. Terrorist statements indicate that energy infrastructure and U.S. military facilities in Qatar remain potential targets. U.S. officials have described Qatar’s counter-terrorism cooperation since the September 11 attacks as significant.

He's been doing business in Qatar for at least a decade.

Qatar did cancel a conference at a Trump Hotel in 2014...oh, and they also lease space from Trump Towers in NYC.

If more of those in various positions of power around Trump actually had any integrity, they'd be leaving one by one.

Ready to jump off the Trump train, or are you happy to be kept in the dark while Trump fucks around with our foreign relations without consulting anyone? At least anyone in this country?

12. corker has a trump bromance: Sen. Bob Corker calls Trump trip near perfection
Tue Jun 6, 2017, 04:49 PM
Jun 2017
Senator Bob Corker released a statement on Sunday praising President Donald Trump’s first international trip as president, which concluded late Saturday night. Corker called the trip nearly perfect and praised the president for making progress on goals that he had discussed with senior White House officials earlier this month.

"I spoke with President Trump at length this morning and told him that I could not be more pleased with his first international trip,” Corker said in the release. “The trip was executed to near perfection and it appears the president has made great progress on the broad range of objectives his team articulated to me when I met with senior White House and State Department officials during their preparations.”

Corker, who chairs the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, added that he was confident about the future of U.S. involvement in global problems.

“The challenges we face around the world are vast, but with a strategic focus on our long-term goals, I am confident we can reassert U.S. leadership, strengthen key alliance and improve security both at home and abroad.”
