this is unreal.

I have to ask you guys about ringtones

I don't have (nor desire) a cellphone. I was musing about how it seems as though many people stopped using those annoying (and nerve-shattering) ringtones like (c)rap music ones, for example. Very loud and obnoxious--much like the phones' owners...

So anywho, ever since then, I have heard exactly what I detest so much and I wonder if anyone can explain why grownazz people would do such a thing? Don't they realize how trashy they appear?

In that uninflected, gray-suit voice you'd hear in PSAs in the fifties and sixties:

&quot Roommate's name), answer the phone. (Roommate's name), answer the phone. (Roommate's name), answer the phone. (Roommate's name), answer the phone. (Roommate's name), answer the phone! (Roommate's name), answer the phone!"

I can also assign different ringtones to different people, so I immediately know if I want to answer it or not.

And some people's ringtone is set to "silent."

Cell phones are like children. People who don't have them find often find them annoying, but they are important in ways that are inexplicable to the uninitiated.

But I don't think mine are annoying. I use Dexter themes for some which are pretty quiet and subdued for some

I use Mario themes for others which is pretty cheerful, no one seems to mind.

Twilight zone for unknowns

Crickets (yep the sound of crickets) for those I'd like to ignore

Horse neigh for those that talk long and perhaps I should think twice about answering at this moment.

Clap of thunder for emails arriving.

Ironman for my son calling, and Pirates of the Carribean for texting, wicked witch's "I'll get yo my pretty and your little dog tooooo." for my daughter calling (she has a little dog), and snagglepuss' "heavens to mergatroyd" for her texting.

All of this makes it possible for me to #1 know my phone from others #2 know if I need to attend the phone this minute or if ignoring is suitable for now.

My point is that ringtones aren't really the problem, it's simply that some people's taste in noise isn't going to suit everyone.

and then assign them through the contact settings.

PS: I look through the options with my pc or laptop then go straight to the exact ringtone with my phone to download. You do have to have internet on your phone.

select individual ring tones on my Android as well. They have a myxer app for Android which I downloaded. I use the zedge rooster to wake me up. It's annoying enough to wake me up no matter what state I'm in. http://m.zedge.net/?p=ringtone-348395

Some I crop down to the exact piece of the selection that I want using Nero. Then I move it to my (Android) phone and store it in the same folder as all the pre-loaded ringtones.

I do notice less and less people using them now too: My ring tone was always set to, well, ring. Sounds like a land line phone. But anymore, when I'm around others, I'll hear what i think is my phone ringing, but it's not. Point is I'm hearing more and more normal ringtones.

Now there are some variations of the normal ring tone: they can be used to categorize calls from different people, or different groups of people.

May the obnoxious "look at me" ringtones/songs die a slow death.

I work for a blood center and thought it was appropriate. Calls I get at work are almost usually work calls. It's not too obnoxious and not all that noticeable if I just let it ring in my pocket if I have to ignore it. Then the Jetson's doorbell goes off if I get a voice mail. That gets a few chuckles.

Not much out there that's appropraite with a "blood" theme. If I was 20 it would probably have been ACDC-If You Want Blood You've Got It. That would have got me in trouble by now.
