Corey is now bragging about the fact that Trump met/spoke to Comey 9 times (as opposed to Obama meeting with him twice). Corey is an idiot.

You certainly wouldn't confuse him with a legal tactician.

Nor would you confuse the #Trump Family consigliere Kasowitz with a legal tactician.

He doesn't need anyone to ask him to be loyal to the country. Especially not from some tax dodging blowhard

It was a joke. It was locker room talk. When I said x, I obviously meant y.

Complete bullshit.

I'm sure that he was asking for a "loyalty pledge" to the country and it was soooo vague that Comey said no.

Especially in private.

Here is the Oath Comey would have taken and such oath would still be effect until resignation or termination.

https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/5/3331

An individual, except the President, elected or appointed to an office of honor or profit in the civil service or uniformed services, shall take the following oath: “I, AB, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.” This section does not affect other oaths required by law.

President Trump, who is like a smart person with a very good brain and all the best words, has a coterie of sycophants on permanent retainer to come along and explain what he really meant to say. Weeks later, Lackey Lewandowski comes slithering out to spin Trump's actual comments into something that sounds acceptable. Acceptable until it's placed in context and shown to be absurd, but that moment is all that Fox's audience requires.

It's just so strange, though, that this 70-year-old man hasn't mastered the art of actually saying what he means. But he's creating jobs for people who will twist, re-shape, and beat into submission what he said so that his fans aren't discomfited.
