Your opinion: Is there any real distinction between "ordered" and "directed"?

Sounds like "ordered" would mean:

TRUMP: "Comey, you're going to stop the investigation against Michael Flynn right now, and if you don't, your job is gone."

Whereas "directed" apparently means:

TRUMP: "I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go. He is a good guy. I hope you can let this go.”

Followed up by:

TRUMP: “Because I have been very loyal to you, very loyal; we had that thing you know.”

But in the end, aren't we all just splitting hairs unnecessarily for the purposes of obstruction? Either context could arguably form the basis for an obstruction of justice charge in your mind.
