I don't think we know the actual truth about that.
It has been reported that he fired him because he lied to VP Pence but is that really the reason?
After all, he waited for 18 days after being told about Flynn's interactions with the Russians?
But, it was after it was reported in the media that the FBI had recorded the conversations of Flynn with the Russian Ambassador and after the Republican leaders met with Trump.
It was the Republican leaders that insisted Trump fire Flynn because the evidence was too overwhelming to defend and was a threat to the Republican Party itself. There was no other choice for Trump but to fire Flynn.
That truth has not yet been reported, in my opinion.

(61,695 posts)Trump didn't want to fire him, but the "heat" was getting too close to the presidency. 45 would hire him back in a heartbeat if he thought he couldn't be tied to flynn's legal problems.

(16,864 posts)He felt Flynn hadn't done anything wrong but accepted his resignation because "he misled the VP". Not too many weeks ago, there was a report from WH staffers suggesting Trump had delusional hopes of reinstating Flynn
