Let's not forget that Nixon was taken down by an "uh huh."

The so-called "smoking gun" tape was a recording of H.R. Haldeman explaining how they could get the CIA to get the FBI to drop the investigation into the Watergate burglary. All Nixon said was "uh huh," indicating his agreement. And that was enough. I'm bringing this up because the GOPers keep insisting that Trump didn't, in so many words, *demand* that Comey drop the Flynn investigation. Given the circumstances, Comey interpreted Trump's words as a command ("Will no one rid me of this troublesome priest?&quot . In the same vein, Nixon didn't have to say "Yes, let's do that" to be charged with obstruction of justice in the draft articles of impeachment.

that's the one thing he could that might give his defenders pause.

had they not come out he probably would have survived. As dramatic as this Comey testimony is unless there is a tape that the Trump WH has to produce it's probable it's his word vs. Comey's. My guess is that if Trump had a tape that he, unlike Nixon, would destroy them.

of the GOP then. IMO, they don't and don't want the embarrassment of a redux of obstruction and corruption to harm their majority.

We already knew that Trump is an inveterate liar and he has tried to interfere in the investigation........but I don't think the Congressional GOP caucus really cares.

I won't until articles of impeachment are signed off by the GOP.

Even at the time of his resignation he still had about 26%. Trump has 34%. There may be still more slippage but there will always be plenty of supporting deplorables.

Oddly, though, after Nixon resigned it got to be pretty hard to find people who'd admit to having voted for him.
