...they seem to be taking the investigation very seriously.
First, they tried to spin that Comey cleared Trump of any wrongdoing.
Then, they tried to attack Comey rather aggressively by saying that he broke the law by giving up his memos to the NY Times. Richard Painter, ex-ethics lawyer for GW Bush said that since the information was not "classified", there was no law broken.
But, they are fighting back.

I think they have the goods on Trump & his cabal.
Comey's appearance today was a formality. Mueller has enough & NY Ag Schneiderman has RICO. No one's getting pardoned & no one's going to lie & spin their way outta this.
I think the whole Comey testamony today was set up to make the Trumps paranoid . Like cat & mouse.

oday, Mr. Comey admitted that he unilaterally and surreptitiously made unauthorized disclosures to the press of privileged communications with the President. The leaks of this privileged information began no later than March 2017 when friends of Mr. Comey have stated he disclosed to them the conversations he had with the President during their January 27, 2017 dinner and February 14, 2017 White House meeting.

(11,996 posts)He is also tryiing to bring the focus back to leakers, not the substance....and now Comey is one (but selectively).
It has also been stated that Comey isn't a "leaker" because he released information as a private citizen and that "leakers" are considered those who are on the inside. That is a very important distinction.

"...it is overwhelmingly clear that there have been and continue to be those in government who are actively attempting to undermine this administration with selective and illegal leaks of classified information and privileged communications. Mr. Comey has now admitted that he is one of these leakers."
