Is GOP using McCain to set up impeachment?

Here is McCain's statement about the debacle today:

"What I was trying to get at was whether Mr. Comey believes that any of his interactions with the President rise to the level of obstruction of justice. In the case of Secretary Clinton’s emails, Mr. Comey was willing to step beyond his role as an investigator and state his belief about what ‘no reasonable prosecutor’ would conclude about the evidence. I wanted Mr. Comey to apply the same approach to the key question surrounding his interactions with President Trump — whether or not the President’s conduct constitutes obstruction of justice. While I missed an opportunity in today’s hearing, I still believe this question is important, and I intend to submit it in writing to Mr. Comey for the record.”

They invited him in and gave him time. You would think they would have conferred. So why would he try to get Comey to commit to calling tRump's actions an obstruction of justice? Just what the hell is their game plan? Did they set up McCain as the patriot who would lead the GOP to call for impeachment?

It was pretty obvious McCain had lost the plot. I'm seriously wondering whether he was having some kind of medical episode. Even if the GOP had tried to set him up to do something, it was impossible to tell what that was.

It was painful to listen to. Obviously he was not in command of his facts or questions. Whether he has lost it, or was distracted or something else is going on, he blew it today.

The best I could make of his ramblings was that Clinton was cleard of comiserating with the ruskies, so trumpty should be as well...even though the Clinton investigation was the email server (which wasn't hacked by the ruskies).

In general I noticed some repubs treid to drag the Clinton name into this as much as possible.

that the investigations are about two separate things. It was his ham-handed attempt to say, "But she did it, too!"

No one fell for it. He was simply inarticulate in trying to equate apples to hand grenades.

I'd have to believe it was an attempt to scotch the investigation by tricking Comey into making some kind of premature claim of guilt or innocence. Comey has been there. He botched the Clinton announcement, and the letter, well.

Not likely Comey would take the bait here. McCain can submit any letters he wants, I doubt Comey will spill anything about on ongoing investigation in open session or in later remarks.

makes a lot more sense. But what a roundabout way of doing it (even if he had been able to get his words out).

Comey clearly stated in one response that it was not up to him to say if he thought that Trumpy's actions were grounds for obstruction of justice charges.

If McCain doesn't rise up to the matter and get revenge, he should turn in his Tail hook papers.
