Take Away Points from Today

1. Comey said the independent counsel was appointed, because Trump revealed he has tapes (that could be destroyed). Also, by implication, if Trump does not produce tapes that contradict Comey's memos, then Comey is telling the truth (because we now know that Trump keeps tapes). Also, Trump faces an independent counsel investigation now because he is a moron.

2. The GOP is so desperate that they will try to claim that the POTUS saying "I hope" to a subordinate is not an order, it is just him making a wish. Making Comey a genie.

3. The GOP will also try to claim that because Comey did not immediately charge the POTUS with attempting to obstruct justice after their final conversation, he, Comey was also guilty of taking part in a conspiracy to obstruct justice. (Very, thin, I know. They are desperate.)

4. Comey repeatedly and gleefully (in his subdued way) reminded us that Trump himself has said that he (and Sessions) decided to fire Comey over the Russia investigation. Making Comey's firing obstruction of justice.

5. If 4 is true, then Sessions un-recused himself in order to take part in the Russia investigation. If Sessions says he did not do it for this reason, then he is calling Trump a liar or demented or both.

6. Comey blamed Bill Clinton for his decision to get involved in the election at the last minute (Bill is always an easy target). Comey claims he had to do it to help the FBI and DOJ save face (Because Lord knows the credibility of the DOJ is so much more important than the democratic process.) Before you have a panic attack, keep in mind that this may buy him the support of some powerful Republicans who hate Bill as much as they hate Donald. I am sure that Bill Clinton will accept being scapegoated once again if it gets Trump impeached.

7. Comey looked like a calm, rational and above all else truthful human being--in comparison to Trump.

All in all, Trump had a very bad day. I hope they keep him far far away from the red button. North Korea and Qatar should not have to pay for Trump's criminal stupidity.
