"Why is the DUP so controversial? The party's stances on abortion, gay marriage and climate change"

Meet the UK Tories' new partners in power:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Conservatives are preparing to form a government with the Democratic Unionist Party, after shock election losses saw Theresa May’s party fall short of a Commons majority.

Tory officials took part in “extensive talks” with Northern Ireland’s largest unionist political party overnight but the deal could come at a high price.

The DUP has regularly courted controversy in its near 50-year history for its views on issues from same sex marriage to climate change.

Labor would need SNL too and a few others as well as some DUP MPs to switch they are right now 55 seats short of having a 326 threshold

DUP chief Arlene Foster met UDA boss days after loyalist murder in Bangor

Arlene Foster has defended meeting a UDA chief within 48 hours of the loyalist feud murder in Bangor of Colin Horner in front of his three-year-old son.

The DUP leader yesterday admitted meeting UDA boss Jackie McDonald in south Belfast. The Ulster Political Research Group, which provides political advice to the UDA, yesterday endorsed the DUP's Emma Little Pengelly for the South Belfast constituency.

Mr McDonald also urged loyalists to support the DUP in the recent Assembly election, and praised Mrs Foster, saying her "experience and dedication has helped bring about stability and prosperity".

... Sinn Fein MLA John O'Dowd said: "It beggars belief that only two days after the UDA murdered Colin Horner in Bangor that Arlene Foster did not challenge a senior UDA leader to disband the armed loyalist gang.

General Election 2017 result: Watch live as DUP leader Arlene Foster speaks to the media after Theresa May says she will work with 'friends and allies' in party

Theresa May has said she will work with her "friends and allies" in the DUP to provide certainty for the UK in its forthcoming Brexit negotiations.

Following an audience with the Queen at Buckingham Palace, the Prime Minister said she was confident that she would be able to work with the Democratic Unionists at Westminster in a new administration.

"I will now form a Government - a Government that can provide certainty and lead Britain forward at this critical time for our country," she said.

Earlier a senior Democratic Unionist said it is "much too early" to talk of a formal agreement with a minority Conservative government.
