President Donald Trump has expressed relief even after fired FBI Director James Comey testified that Trump had pressed him to drop an investigation into former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn.
Despite so many false statements and lies, total and complete vindication...and WOW, Comey is a leaker! the president tweeted early Friday.
Yet the president hasnt been as completely vindicated as he says. During his testimony former FBI Director James Comey said he is sure Trump is being investigated for obstruction of justice by special counsel Robert Mueller. Mueller, also a former FBI chief, was one of Comeys mentors at the bureau.
Trump reportedly told his legal team I was right, after watching 45 minutes of Comeys testimony with his lawyer, Marc Kasowitz, and Defense Secretary Jim Mattis on Thursday, according to The New York Times.
Trumps son Donald Trump Jr. went on the offensive with a stream of tweets calling Comeys character into question and later appeared on Sean Hannity s show on Fox News to declare that his fathers legal woes were now over.

(7,434 posts)That's the question that requires vigorous investigation.

(90,780 posts)Trump wasn't under investigation - at the time - Comey was STILL FBI director.
That was May 9th. This is June 9th. Comey was fired May 9th.
Things change.
So, yeah, Mueller is now investigating Trump. Especially since Trump fired Comey and said - on TV - that he fired Comey because of the Russian investigation into his campaign and his friends.
Trump and his lawyer are posturing.

I want to see what the Treasury investigation reveals.
My hunch is that this filthy family is neck deep in dirty Russian money.

(15,805 posts)Comey didn't talk about whether Trump is under investigation for any connection to Russia's meddling in the U.S. election. He testified under oath that the president tried repeatedly to interfere in that investigation and seek a carve out to protect Flynn.
So far it looks like he's only been able to get his two beetle-browed sons and his paid family lawyer to back up that assumption and publicly defend him.

Burr: ..."In your estimation, was General Flynn, at that time, in serious legal jeopardy? And in addition to that, do you sense that the president was trying to obstruct justice, or just seek for a way for Mike Flynn to save face, given he had already been fired?"
Comey: "...I dont think its for me to say whether the conversation I had with the president was an effort to obstruct. I took it as a very disturbing thing, very concerning, but thats a conclusion Im sure the special counsel will work towards, to try and understand what the intention was there, and whether thats an offense."
MANCHIN: Do you believe this will rise to obstruction of justice?
COMEY: I dont know. That thats Bob Muellers job to sort that out.

(6,139 posts)This Mueller guys sounds promising, former FBI director. He and Comey are likely on the same page, protecting the integrity of FBI which would lead to inevitable conviction of trump, the greatest con artist of our time. The new fbi director is a suspect and may obstruct justice but this would be revealed too. All of fbi top level staff is with Comey, cant fire them all.
It seems that trump got himself cornered and see the only way out is to discredit both FBI and CIA and that is very hard if impossible to do at this point.
