Advice to People with Access to Classified Material:

Do not send it to Glenn Greenwald or The Intercept! Trust me on this. It will not work out well, since they don't care what happens to you. Remember Snowden? How's that working out for him?

Just don't do it. If you must send it to someone, send it to the New York Times or Washington Post, anonymously. They will, at least, respect your privacy and do what they can to help you avoid immediate imprisonment.

Be smart. Be wise. If you think you absolutely must release something, do it in a way that limits the risk to you. Don't end up like Reality Leigh Winner. She trusted Greenwald and The Intercept and is in jail, facing a federal charge that could send her to prison for ten years. Don't be like that.

Be smart. Be secretive. Be freaking careful.

Excellent. I highly recommend that if someone actually had something important to reveal.

I'd post shit here before giving it to GG so that he can glam glory from it. winner must not have thought that part out. Had she contact with a legit outlet they might have told her to not send it because it was already a known commodity. She exposed something that wasn't a secret to those in the know.

Her information had already made it to the committees and the DOJ investigation. Some time ago, in fact. Poor kid, really.

(according to the FBI agent's sworn affidavit)

The system that contained that information tracked who accessed and printed that information.

It indicated only 6 people had done so.

They "audited" all 6 people's computers.

Winner's computer indicated that she had emailed the Intercept.

When confronted with that information Winner confessed.

What wrongdoing by the government was she exposing??

Releasing classified information that the government is aware of and has deemed to be top secret is not blowing a whistle. It's committing a crime.

Sheesh.

But of course, that's the last thing she wanted to hear. She is no hero.

...should be required to take a special class on Glenn Greenwald and all the people he's helped to ruin and put in prison. There is nothing "heroic" or admirable about that man and his methods.
