Biographer who caught Trump lying 30 times: He tried to intimidate me by lying about taping conversations

In 2005, Trump sued (biographer Tim) OBrien over his book TrumpNation: The Art of Being the Donald, which suggested that the real estate mogul was worth only $250 million. But the author turned the tables on Trump and cornered him in a deposition for making at least 30 false statements.
His loose association with the truth becomes problematic when hes confronted with documents, OBrien explained to CNN host Brian Stelter on Sunday. Weve had decades now of Trump frequently lying or exaggerating about a wide range of things.
OBrien pointed out that Special Counsel Robert Mueller has an arsenal of tools available to assist the Trump investigation, including subpoena power, access to financial records and a law enforcement community that is deeply disturbed by the direction of the presidency.

Hes said this over the years to reporters when they go into the Trump organization, I just want to let you know that Im taping you right now,' OBrien noted. And he said it multiple times during my interviews with him. He said that into my own tape recorder when I recorded our interviews.

(18,837 posts)I've written about my sister on DU on a number of occasions. She's one of them. Breaks my heart.
I personally feel that one of the main reasons (among many others) that Rachel Maddow's ratings have gone through the roof is that she refrains from offering nightly "equal time" to the Jeffrey Lords and Jack Kingstons that CNN seems to favor.
And then there's Fox, where the subject is rarely discussed, and if it is, it's all talking points and deflection provided by the White House.
I also posted on DU (I'm sure others have as well) about Trump's assertion that he would "NEVER" demand a loyalty oath, coupled with a video of him on the campaign trail of him demanding a loyalty oath to vote for him from the assembled audience.
I honestly believe there is only one way to end this, and it's the 2018 midterms. Ryan and McConnell will do nothing as long as they are pursuit of their agendas and Trump signs off on it. Democrats holding a majority in the House and Senate seems to be the ONLY option.

Already if we take back both houses, judiciary and all courts are gone for 40 years.

(49,044 posts)Crumble it will. When it does, it will happen very quickly. Democrats (INCLUDING US) must be united and have language ready to hammer the Republican Trump Party into pieces. Must be ready to move quickly with candidates and positions to consolidate results because it may happen near the 2018 elections.
In particular there need to be prominent POSITIVE positions to push in contrast to the worst excesses of the Ryan-McCONnell-Trump Republican positions and legislation.

(49,044 posts)I am for the Democrats that the Democratic voters choose.
That is NOT "any Dem no matter what".
Quit stuffing words in mouths of DU members. It is a very disreputable debating tactic and people see right through it. Give it up.

The exceptions would be very rare, such as when very bad facts are revealed after the Demcratic members make their selection.
I wasn't thinking of what happened last year.
I was looking forward.
Democrats need to look forward.

(90,787 posts)Even threatening to tape some people can be deadly. Them thinking you might record conversations can be deadly too.
Sure, Trump is probably lying about it, and it is his way of trying to be intimidating - but what if he does record conversations? And if you're part of a criminal organization, can you really take the chance he is bullshitting?
