I have no problems hitching my wagon in agreement with this statement.

(11,110 posts)is giving a lot of exposure to a lot of great Democrats. I think we will be spoiled for choice in the next primary (assuming the Republic survives that long).

(9,865 posts)Just because Bernie won't be the President doesn't mean his agenda, organization building and policies aren't part of the future of the party.
Guess it's just irresistible to dis him.

(2,067 posts)but the push for diversity apparently nearly always stops there.
These same folks never utter a word about the lack of diversity of physical abilities, or of economic background, or any other important diversifying characteristic that would bring enormous value to our elected bodies.
If you have the right genitalia or skin color, you're apparently "diverse."

(30,765 posts)other Democrats. Read Hillary's policies and platform. People paid so little attention to it when she was running.
His organization? Every candidate he backed has lost. And this is not about the primary. This has happened after the general election.

(9,865 posts).... challenging in *profoundly* red areas. What the hell did you think would happen? That it would be an overnight one-shot miracle? They've made more headway than has been made in decades. This is a long term battle considering how much the Democrats have lost since the 90's. To get back the future we need to really keep organizing longterm.
Have you asked millennials if they identify with him as part of the future of the Democratic party? I have. Two of them, just last night. Women, age 19 and 20. Both supported Bernie. He's really helping bring them in.
Not going to re-litigate the primaries. What does Hillary have to do with a thread that's about the future and begins with an insult to Bernie?
I love Kamala and we are growing our bench.

Bernie Sanders was an important voice in this election, and hes committed to defeating Donald Trump.

(81,514 posts)that definitely include Kamala Harris. And Gavin Newsom, even though that weights the ticket too California-loaded. Certainly works for me personally but then again, I'm a Californian.
But add her in with Al Franken maybe? Love that idea too, but it's too "Senate-y." You'd need somebody from one of the states to balance things.
But I sure do like Harris/Newsom or Newsom/Harris anyway.
Harris/DiBlasio? A "CEO"-type, and his stomping grounds are New York City, which all by itself is bigger than some countries.
Harris/Cuomo? Harris/Hickenlooper?

(11,175 posts)Every member of the Electoral College must vote for at least one candidate who is NOT from that elector's state. If a Harris/Newsom ticket carried enough states to reach 270 but fell short of 325, presumably the California electors would vote for Harris, but then no VP candidate would have a majority. The new VP would be selected by the Senate, which might or might not be Democratic.

(65,180 posts)Not sure we want a candidate from CA since we will win that state anyway. But I will look into her more. If someone like Warren or Bernie runs, probably will still vote for him/her.

(11,088 posts)Both are representative of the core ideals within the party and both are needed to win the support of a broad coalition going forward.
I hate when people think that the party belongs solely to one group or another, effectively ignoring and repudiating the diversity in identity and ideology that makes us strong.
