Rep. Mo Brooks stated that the shooter opened up before anybody, including Scalise's security detail, knew what was going on. He did so from a distance, so that report is incredibly unlikely to be true.

We do not need a flaring up of political violence in America - that quickly spirals out of control. I suppose it makes sense to hope that the shooter is someone who doesn't reinforce the right wing narrative that minorities, Muslims, and radical leftists want to reap chaos in our nation. Because it is the extreme right in this country that stockpiles weapons and trains private militias and regularly carries out acts of terror.

In Chicago last weekend 36 people were shot. 6 of them died. In one weekend. It happens mostly in a few neighborhoods.

Chicago has fairly strict gun regulations. Indiana boarders the south side of Chicago and has terrible gun restrictions.
