What if Putin's Russia has Kompromat on a number of

Republican congressional leaders? It's far from out of the question, really. I can imagine a visitor to their offices, hand-carrying a letter and delivering it to them, one-by-one, whenever some crucial question is before them. Inside would be a subtle reminder of the nature of the specific compromising information on each of them and a note about Putin's wishes.

After reading it, the congressperson or Senator simply feeds the sheet of paper into the shredder and considers what action to take.

This would all be so simple, really, to carry out. Of course, it would require that the people being blackmailed had actually done something worth being blackmailed about, but I have no difficulty imagining that many of those in the GOP leadership have skeletons or some other nefarious things in their respective closets.

And so goes politics...

If they dump him they get one of their own in Pence, Ryan, Hatch so why are they fighting for him? Yeah I know about the authoritarian mindset and tribalism but that doesn't quite explain it for me. It could be compromising material by the Russians but I think another reason could be the money laundering that many of them, including repub leaders, are caught up in along with drumpf.

Could be that the Russians are helping some folks out with financial problems in that way, creating the very compromising information they're using against them. Sneaky, huh? I suspect that is the case with Trump, as well. The Russians bailed him out of financial disaster, and now expect loyalty from him...or else...

between online information, hacking, and photoshop, they can fabricate whatever they need.

that experts can distinguish photoshop from a real picture doesn't always help the victim.

for a politician, the damage might be big enough to worry about even if they can prove the pic was fake.

alternatively, they can go after a family member.

or they can hint how they'll plant drugs or kiddie porn or something.

of course it's more likely to be effective if the politician already feels they have something to hide, but it's not a requirement.
