to the costumes worn by the Azalea Trail Maids, a group of teenaged "goodwill ambassadors" in Sessions' adopted hometown of Mobile, Alabama. Those are the same neo-confederate belles Sessions unilaterally decided to send as the state's representatives in the inaugural parade of the nation's first African-American POTUS.

A town drenched in Old South iconography and sentiments, Mobile was the scene of Donald Trump's first large outdoor rally at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in August 2015. The city's mayor proudly laid out the red carpet for Trump both then and when the president-elect returned in December 2016 as a thank you to Mobile for giving Trump the boost he needed.
