I have a feeling that Trump is very close to a mental breaking-point:

http://www.politico.com/story/2017/06/15/trump-russia-investigation-obsession-239614

Trump, for months, has bristled almost daily about the ongoing probes. He has sometimes, without prompting, injected. “I’m not under investigation” into conversations with associates and allies. He has watched hours of TV coverage every day — sometimes even storing morning news shows on his TiVo to watch in the evening — and complained nonstop.

...

Just as he has done publicly on Twitter, Trump has told friends and associates that the investigation is a “witch hunt” and that others are out to get him. “It’s basically all he talks about on the phone,” said one adviser who has spoken with Trump and his top aides.

...

Two people close to Trump note that his is an obsessive personality — whether about businessmen who wronged him over the years, his years-long and fruitless quest to prove President Barack Obama wasn't born in the United States, to reporters who have written negative stories about him. One transition official said Trump lashed out at reporters over old stories within a day of winning the election in November.

...

“He is totally in a box now,” one friend said. “And it might make him want to fire Mueller more.”

“If he didn’t send about 15 tweets that he’s done, he’d be in much better shape than he is right now,” said Douglas Brinkley, a presidential historian at Rice University. “I kept thinking he would change from these self-destructive tendencies, but he may be the first president in history who brings himself down because he just can’t help himself.”

------------

There was another OP here on DU, that Trump was nearing a point of psychological breakdown.

This whole thing reads to me as if Trump really has no idea that Russia pushed him to victory because they wanted "anybody-but-Clinton". And he's too proud to consider the possibility that he has been manipulated or that his victory doesn't count.

1. I agree. I don't think he really wanted this job, in the first place, and now he is panicking

I don't know if he ran just to fulfill some egocentric need, or if he was pushed to run, so he could be used as an indebted pawn. Either way, he is the most dangerous thing to happen to this country, ever, IMHO.

He has never been held to strict account. He has no idea how to be accountable.

He wanted to one-up Pres Obama for making fun of him. He thought running the country was like running one of his corrupt businesses.

I won't go so far as to say he's learning, I'm pretty sure he's incapable of that, but he coming to the realization that the real job of presidenting is difficult.

His cognitive skills are obviously starting to go. IMHO, his lack of impulse control, inability to stay on topic, or speak in complete sentences are getting more pronounced.

A narcissist who is also suffering from any form of dementia is not the kind of person I want anywhere near the nuclear codes.

Petty vengeance is his hobby.

After the win, he set about looking for a veep who would do the work for him. Seems to have outsourced his thinking to Bannon and Miller, and to consider everyone else disposable. The Kushners are for emotional support, I guess.

Spends his days watching TV and hating. No one can live like that for long.

2. I actually doubt he is

This is probably 'normal' behavior for him. Obsessiveness and revenge have likely haunted him all his life and he copes just fine by acting out

I'd guess he was close to a breakdown if he went quiet, wouldn't communicate, stopped watching tv news, etc

4. Here is the media's mistake - "I kept thinking he would change"

(sorry for yelling but)

HE'S NOT GOING TO CHANGE. HE HAS BEEN LIKE THIS FOR DECADES. HE IS COMPLETELY OUT OF HIS ELEMENT.

From the NYT 27 years ago this month (June 7, 1990) - (where I posted the below excerpts here - https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=9168034)

[*** <...>

''Let me tell you my biggest strength that nobody knows,'' Mr. Trump said. ''My biggest strength is that I get the best people for the job. People want to work for me. Trump does well with management.''

Others are not so sure. Mr. Trump is praised by some as an imaginative but conservative real estate developer and a wily negotiator who, as one longtime associate said, ''never lets you know the facts.'' But his skill as the chief executive of a day-to-day business, now employing about 15,000 people, is a question mark.

Since he took a more direct hand in his casino operations late last year, he has fired a number of senior managers. Others have walked out in disgust. ''I simply didn't want to work for Donald Trump any longer,'' said Jack O'Donnell, the former president of the Trump Plaza and a well-regarded gaming industry executive who quit last month. Mr. Trump has lashed out publicly at his own top aides in press interviews and on television, balked at complying with severance agreements and appointed executives to positions for which they seem to have little relevant experience. The result has been a level of friction that has become the talk of the industry - and that has made it increasingly hard for him to recruit managers.

''People who work there are terrified,'' one regulator said. ''People are hiding under their desks.''

EXACT SAME BEHAVIOR but now he has twitter to express it with.

6. Yuri Bezmenov told Trumpy, via tweet, to publicly implore Russia to get HRC's emails,
Fri Jun 16, 2017, 12:13 PM

then Trumpy did just that several days later.

The notion that Trumpy didn't know of Russia's collusion is nonsense. He's anything BUT innocent. He's been dealing with Russia's agents for more than a decade. He knows exactly who he's dealing with. For Trumpy, MONEY and power trumps everything else, including patriotism. He's the perfect Russian "useful idiot"-- vain and arrogant. He perfectly fits the profile for a Russian asset. The Russian Ambassador and a Russian Minister walked right into the White House and received top secret information, volunteered by Trumpy.

It is illogical of Mr. Brinkley to think this man will change, like it's illogical for an abused spouse to stay with their abuser.

One thing we can be sure of is that this craziness will continue as long as #fakepresident is in office.
