Baseball shooting inspires bill to weaken gun rules

Nicole Gaudiano , USA TODAY
4:30 p.m. ET June 16, 2017

... The bill would allow people with a valid concealed carry permit issued from their home state to carry their firearms in the District of Columbia, which currently does not recognize such permits from other jurisdictions and has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation.

Massie introduced his legislation with 21 GOP cosponsors on Thursday in response to the shooting a day earlier in Alexandria, Va., that injured five people, including House Majority Whip Steve Scalise of Louisiana ...

3. SCREW that. DC HATES this law

This law would fail about 99 to 1 if put to DC citizens or city councilors.

Screw the loser Congressmen trying to impose their shitty values on DC residents, who want better for themselves and their children than more guns and more violence.

7. Yes. We need to advocate for a national handgun ban

Even if Scalia wrote a decision in Heller that gets Americans killed every day.

After every handgun shooting we should all be saying "Thanks, Scalia."

Use the same strategy the right uses with abortion.

And for God's sake figure out a way to keep Indiana's guns out of Chicago.

10. Heller forbids that

And why do you think for a second that there is widespread support for handgun bans?

12. Right. Scalia harmed Americans with that decision

So advocate against Heller.
Our kids are at stake.
Kids are literally killed in our cities, by handguns, every weekend. That is the legacy of Heller.

13. Yet handgun deaths have been steadily falling for decades

It is a lot more complicated than just "Heller".

Good luck. Keep us appraised of your progress.

15. Violence and crime have been falling yes

But kids and adults are still getting shot by handguns, all so the gun industry can falsely appeal to men's insecurities.

P.s. the lead hypothesis for falling violence is surprisingly well-supported given how prima facie crazy it seems.

14. I see the chicken little types are clucking
Tue Jun 20, 2017, 07:10 AM

Every time a new state proposes concealed carry or every time there is a proposed change in where people can carry the same types issue the same chicken little warning about how bad things will be if it passes.

And when it passes none of that comes to pass.

And those same types don't learn from that, instead the repeat the same things again the next time.

A few years ago we had the same thing when NC proposed allowed carry in restaurants that serve alcohol if the owners don't post them (of course it was always and still would be illegal to carry if drinking). The same chcicken little ma clucked about Wild West shootouts and bar fights turning deadly and how bad it would be. Two years after it passed not a single example of a concealed carry holder having any issues in a bar. No Wild West, no deadly bar fights.

Did the same types admit they were wrong about the change? Of course not.

16. If Steve Scalise had been armed while playing baseball, he still would have been shot.

The weapons available today are not George Washington's musket. They will kill you before you think to draw your revolver. We need to change gun laws, but we also need to change mind set. When did SOP become "shoot" in order to solve every problem in life????
