One bullshit number comes from a douche with a typepad blog, and the other comes from Moody's.

Made up horse shit.

YOU MAKE US ALL LOOK LIKE FOOLS WHEN YOU PROPAGATE THIS BULLSHIT.

The unemployment rate is 8.2% with a total of 12.7 million people out of work.

The article you link to makes the claim that repuke obstructionism has cost 1.15 million jobs (this is the final paragraph):
"Without knowing how much we would have increased public sector employment we can't make a firm estimate of how much better employment levels would be, but if we make the assumption that we increased the public sector by just half of the amount we actually reduced it - the total effect on the economy in both public and private sector jobs would be around 1.15 million - which would push the unemployment rate below 5%."

Unfortunately for the mathematically challenged, 1.15 million jobs doesn't reduce the unemployment rate to less than 5%, it reduces it by less than 1%.

This kind of half assed stuff makes us all look like fools. It gets propopagated about until someone does a little math and destroys it.

Not sure I trust a Kos diary with this analysis - and there doesn't seem to be a link back to the original Kos post to see if there is one there.
