That is from Richard the third - my fave. Damn there's so much of Shakespeare that applies to this family...
In fact, in January I kept having the recurring thoughts "now is the winter of our discontent..."
Then there's Bannon as Iago for example ... from Othello.

I guess depicting Trump as a violent, deranged tyrant hits too close to home for some RWers.

(58,656 posts)Perhaps Trump as Richard would be more accurate. My Shakespeare is a little rusty, and I never did an in depth study.

(32,076 posts)Coriolanus is the name given to a Roman general...Coriolanus becomes active in politics and seeks political leadership. His temperament is unsuited for popular leadership and he is quickly deposed, whereupon he aligns himself to set matters straight according to his own will. The alliances he forges along the way result in his ultimate downfall.

(3,613 posts)Trump/Caesar does not have as big a role as one might expect. He gets killed before much happens. He does return briefly after he is killed. Brutus and Antifa vs Marc Anthony is really the heart of the struggle. Antifa has a very big presence.

(111,261 posts)It was controversial in its own time. Elizabeth I was elderly and had refused to name a successor. Her popularity was finally starting to decline and a play about a legislative body overthrowing/murdering a supreme leader was a little too close for her comfort. Although it was written in 1599, it wasn't officially published until 1623, when James I was on the throne.
It's one of those plays that always makes dictators and kings nervous, and it should.
