Just appeared on FOX News. They are building a case for firing Mueller. If that happens Mike Pence will soon become the 46th President.

Richard W. Painter? @RWPUSA

Trump surrogates are making up Mueller "conflicts" to justify firing him. That will be yet more obstruction of justice if it happens.

Pence will pardon him for all possible crimes, and for that alone Pence will never get reelected.

I can't see Drumph sitting around for another year while Mueller and team dig into his finances, and those of his family and corrupt associates. Sorry, "satellites" (barf).

Because they're going to find PLENTY, starting with loans from Russian banks, and then it's game over, handcuffs, jail.

Trump's financial crimes and his family and business ties to the Russian mob will be revealed in great detail, even if he is impeached.

Trump should never have run for President. He could have stayed in his gilded penthouse, grabbing pussy, borrowing money from Russian gangsters, and no one would have been the wiser. But now, every bit of his dirty laundry will be exposed.

We should have the Presidency and overwhelming control of Congress after the 2020 election, after doing really well in 2018. Pence is already stained, keeping Trump out of jail will destroy his image. The Gerald Ford "For the good of the country" line has been played.

on that, "Pence is already stained, keeping Trump out of jail will destroy his image"... stuff. Never underestimate the short memory span and long grudge retention of the average Republican. Trump will become a saint in their eyes, just like Reagan. Sure, Trump is no Ronald Reagan ( ) but it's amazing what a twisted memory of someone, a tortured, diseased Republican mind can create. Black is white, white is black....the typical Republican clusterfuck.

23. Ford nearly won the election

As I remember, he started to surge near the end. Another week, and he might have overtaken Jimmy Carter.

Ford was a weak candidate in 1976, Pence will surely learn from Ford's mistakes, and may still be able to survive a pardon of Trump and his cronies. Of course, Trump may well pardon the cronies on the way out, leaving Pence to only be "responsible" for the Trump pardon, theoretically.

We've still got to get a candidate ready for 2020, maybe 1976 is a good example, nobody knew who Jimmy Carter was when Watergate crashed and burned.

it was the cover-up that got him forced out of office, not the break-in.

The moron in the White House has already said he intended to obstruct and end the Russia investigation. He has already done what Nixon did that got Nixon driven from office! By his own admission - on television!

What turned America against Nixon was the 'Saturday Night Massacre' - just like the set of firings Painter is suggesting they are setting up.

Hence, Mike Pence!

(i.e. colluded with the Russians during the campaign) then Pence is every bit as illegitimate as Trump.

I think that the focus on "obstruction" plays right into Republican hands. The danger to me is that if Trump is impeached for obstruction, the Republicans will successfully make the case for Americans to "heal" by uniting behind President Pence.

They are doing what Trump always does, attacking enemies real or imagined. Mueller's credibility needs to be attacked in their view because he is the guy bringing it to Trump now. Before, they were attacking Comey. Trump cannot fire Mueller after saying he fired Comey for investigating #TrumpRussia. Trump has already admitted Mueller is investigating him, so that precludes the matter because it would be an automatic conviction on obstruction.

Don't get me wrong -- Trump is a dangerous sociopath and must be removed, but Pence is a hard right religious ideologue and a smart politician whom the media will fawn over as a return to normalcy and so much more presidential.

A Pence presidency has the potential to move the goalposts even further to the right.
