It hasn't affected me, yet, but I'm in a red zone. This looks a lot bigger than cell service.

High winds, etc. Could be knocking a lot of things down.

and usually happens by region.

I'm in the southwest and I've noticed a few things have been a little slow to connect today.

I didn't realize it could be too hot for planes to take offf and land.

The hotter it gets, the less dense the air is, like being at a higher altitude. On a hot and/or humid day, the aircraft will accelerate more slowly down the runway; will need to move faster to attain the same lift, and will climb more slowly. If it's very hot the runway might not be long enough for a safe takeoff within FAA requirements, or the airplane might not be able to clear obstacles after takeoff.

My brain went to overheating engines or melting tires. Air density makes more sense. I have experienced turbulence when flying over or into cold storm fronts in the past.

The runways at King Kalidh airport in Riyadh are almost 14,000 feet long. Abu Dhabi's runways are about 13,500 feet long - even though the terrain is flat they need long runways to compensate for the heat. In contrast, the longest runway at cold, flat Minneapolis airport is 11,000 feet long, and the other three, which are used more often, are 8,000-10,000 feet long. Cold, flat Bismarck's longest runway is 8,800 feet long.

For every single flight, the airline's dispatch department will calculate how long the runway will have to be, based on the temperature, altitude, wind, runway conditions, and the weight of the airplane. If the numbers don't work they will have to use a different runway or take some weight off the airplane (baggage, passengers or fuel) in order to take off. And that calculation will have to take into consideration the possibility of an engine failure - the airplane weight, weather conditions and runway length have to be such that the airplane can have an engine failure before V1 (stop-go speed) and be able to stop on the runway; or else have an engine failure after V1 and be able to take off and continue to climb on one engine at a certain angle and clear obstacles within a certain distance from the end of the runway.

That's a long answer to a short question, sorry!

One of the cheapskate TV stations (that is, over-the-air) has been running Convoy for the last few weeks. I sat through it once, but that was enough.

I have a few CBs. I ought to say something in the Wrangler thread in the DU Lounge about how CBs are still popular with Jeep owners. They go places where there is no cellphone coverage, and CBs are the most effective form of communications.
