It needs to get worse before it will get better.

There is not going to be a quick fix for this. We are now having our very own fascist experiment and it's time everyone realize it.

Fascists don't go down easy, look to your history. The saddest part are the mainstream Republicans that are enabling it because they want what they want. They know the Tea Party and Trump is a rattlesnake, but they are going to pick it up anyway. It is their path to undo the New Deal which is their real endgame (along with even lower taxes).

McConnell and Ryan aren't stupid men. They are simply Machiavellian. They know the Laffer curve is bullshit. They know what happened in Kansas. They know Trump is compromised by the Russians.

THEY. DON'T. CARE.

THEY. WANT.MORE.

Some people are insatiable. They want IT ALL. They don't even care if the dogs get the crumbs. They would rather not have crumbs.

Resist is not enough. It takes Revolt to rid yourself of a fascist.

I don't know how bad it has to get to make people see the light. Believe, I know. I work in the south with rednecks and I don't see the light in their eyes. The good thing is I'm retiring next Friday so I'm escaping the daily stupidity I have dealt with every day. I did my part in my day. The future belongs to the young. They'll deal with it or they won't. Things will have to get really before they get galvanized for change.

The assholes think the leader is going to take health care away from "them", not them. They truly believe it. I am going to find joy in watching them lose their health care. I watched them cheering it on in Iowa.

When JFK's campaign piqued my budding interest in politics, my Depression-era grandpa explained to me all he thought I, as a future member of the working class, needed to know about the subject: "All politicians will lie to you and then steal from you, but the dime's worth of difference is that the Republican wants every single goddamn dollar for himself, while the Democrat will sometimes leave you a dime."

1967 was Monterey Pop, the Golden Gate Park "Human Be-In," Haight-Ashbury, Clapton's & Hendrix's ascension, etc.

1968 was mighty grim: MLK, Jr. and RFK blown away, riots everywhere, the police riot at the DNC at Chicago, etc.

It is going to get worse.....much worse. We are no longer a viable political party. We tried to out Republican the Republicans and we no longer matter at any level in most of the country.

Thinking we take the house in 2018 is a joke. I will bet anyone here we lose seats.

Trump will not be impeached and will, if he chooses to run, be re-elected.

The Democratic Party chose, in the early 80's, to abandon labor and to switch to identity politics. We are now more concerned with where a man in a skirt goes to the toilet than in that man being able to earn a living. We have since ceased to matter on any kind of scale as a party. And all poor people, all working people and all people who aren't white, male, straight and Christian are going to suffer from the abandonment of the one common group all of us belong to labor. There is om
Nly on struggle...capital and labor.....anything else us a diversion. Have a nation where labor is more or less secure and you can pass things like the civil rights act.....have a nation where labor no longer matters and Donald Trump gets elected....

Shows how identity politics is socially constructed; the interests of rich white men are never called that.

Maybe we need to focus less on electoral politics and focus elsewhere, the 2016 election has been used as a club against people who want quality healthcare and education for all as some sort of point that they are crazy while the alt-right, the faction that views the Purge and Punishment Park as instructional videos, as normal.

So, that leads me to think there is something really wrong with our voting system and how much weight we give to the electoral process.

Read Gene Sharp, maybe his book applies more to the US than we know.

At least by external measures. Trump is benefiting from Obama's hard work in getting out of W's mess, and by Trump's own incompetence in not getting his agenda passed. When that changes (and it will), people won't be patient with Republicans or Trump. But right now, even with Trump's chaos and the R's malevolence, people aren't paying attention because they aren't feeling the effects themselves.

Is how quickly fascism took hold here.

I always knew it could; a whole lot of "good Germans" here. The stakes are really high now, with climate change and nuclear weapons .

I'm extremely depressed. A lot of days I just want to come home and get in bed and I do. Hard to fake happy to my grown daughter. She knows.

I suppose like the good Germans some of us will put on blinders and bumble on our way. They will keep us pacified with a stagnant but not depressed economy. Fill the air waves with lies. The vulnerable will pay the highest price.

I had a lot of fight in me when this started. Don't know what to do anymore. just seems like a losing battle and I'm old.
