Thinking that we were going to win in Georgia tonight was wishful thinking.

A single digit difference in an ultra safe Repub district is a major accomplishment and Repubs ought to be very worried. There's lots of historically competitive districts now in Repub hands that could well go blue in 2018.

to turn them all from red to blue. This race had a LOT of dollars allocated to it, and it was all a waste.

What if that money had been diverted to worthwhile causes, like paying for food for people who are on the brink of starvation, or buying up a piece of land before the Republicons could grab it and despoil it? Trump picked his Cabinet officials wisely, in contrast to how stupid he does everything else. He knew that Rethugs could hold the seats that he was creating special elections for.

Maybe we need to target our dollars in places where it will make a difference, rather than the casino of "flip red to blue" politics.

get their sure-thing votes counted - rather than throwing millions of dollars at trying to convince Republican voters who still support Trump to vote for a Democrat?

There are places where the "flip red to blue" would be worth the while but it's not going to be in the upper-middle class suburbs of the Deep South.

To some southerns, he may have been living in sin. They will not vote for someone who is living with someone without the benefit of marriage.

We the people can make the change.....every poster on DU is making a difference. You all have changed my hope. One month ago when I joined, I was so down, depressed over the election...but by discussing with you all...you all have encouraged me and energized me for the next election. And it did not even cost the DNC a million dollars to reach me...I was already there but had no support. I live among hard core Rubs which depresses me when they spout their hateful, libel lies. Now, I have some outlet to discuss and learn what is really going on. Maybe I am over preaching....

There was little doubt who was going to win this. The GOP could have run a syphilitic pedophile in this race and won, not because Jon Ossoff was that bad of a candidate but because that's just the particulars of the district and the race. Politics in the South are just like that and unless you're down here you can't understand.

The Democratic Party's stranglehold on the South from the end of Reconstruction through to Nixon's Southern Strategy had little to do with progressive policies and a lot more to do with the fallout from a certain "peculiar institution." It took little for many faithful Democratic voters to turn on FDR even after they benefited so deeply from his policies. Then their issues with the Kennedys and LBJ are still well known.

It's a lot of upper-middle class suburbs filled with folks who lead lives as insulated as they can manage. Not all quite the same as Buckhead or moreso the neighborhoods closer into town.

The only way they would vote Democratic would be if the Republican was a former Black Panther who impaired their domestic help's ability to make it to work and raised taxes so much they couldn't buy a new SUV for their 16-year-old.

We have got to start kicking some conservative ass and get our message out there. Unfortunately the republicans now control a large percentage of the media now. We have to start strategizing and prioritizing and getting our message out there, or we're going to lose 2018, 2020 and beyond.

I would rather have spent the money on fighting gerrymandering and voter suppression and building grassroots organizations in districts that better fit the Democratic Party's likely demos, so working-class people, people of color, etc.
