How is this election result in Georgia a "referendum" for tRump?

The Washington Post and others are headlining this.

The Republicans narrowly won a seat they have dominated for decades and 2018 is light years away.

What am I missing here?

Or maybe the tabloids. Political coverage resembles both sports and tabloids now for ratings and clicks.

If Ossoff would have won, there would be dozens of posts on DU claiming that it was a referendum against Trump and a clear signal he was being repudiated.
