What's with all these anti-Democratic Party posts on DU?

Is there a Russian/Macedonian troll incursion? All these sudden threads about the death of the party, no more "identity politics," how "we need more Bernie-like candidates," on and on.

Trolls know that the best time to strike is when the intended target is emotionally down. Many of the posts here are of the "it's all over" and "it's all going to get worse" variety.

C'mon, people! There was a big media-funeral for the Democratic Party after the McGovern loss in '72. I know, I was there. And yet Nixon and company were brought down less than two years later. I'm not some harebrained Pollyanna, clearly there has been and will be more pain. But the U.S. is NOT locked into suffering the same fate as 1930's Germany. There are enough good people who aren't going to give up this struggle. Courage!

"When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it -- always."

3. It is NOT an anti-Democratic Party post to urge that the party make changes

The party should be open to constant reassessment of its strategy, tactics, goals, candidates, internal organization, and anything else. That process includes criticism of the status quo. It also includes rebuttals to the criticism. Obviously, the comments on all sides should be based on the merits, not on personal attacks.

Any organization that doesn't have that kind of reassessment as an ongoing process will stagnate.

Posts that try to suppress any such discussion are not doing the Democratic Party any favors.

BTW, I am not a Russian/Macedonian troll. That was just a phase I was going through.

6. There are plenty of demoralizing, depressing, "we're hopeless" kinds of posts.

And they are not helpful, at all.

...insult the most prominent Democrats and Democratic party leaders. They try to pretend that it's "helpful criticism" ... but it's clear that they're smearing the party and insulting our party's members.

It's very skillfully done. Very passive aggressive.

It reminds me of a TV soap-opera where one catty character tells another character "I know you won't mind hearing this, since it comes from a place of love and I just want to help you to improve, but I must tell you my dear your face looks like a leather saddle, and those hideous eyebrows look like a caterpillar has made a home on your forehead ... maybe you should try my moisturizer, and I can recommend a nice girl at the salon who's a genius with the tweezers, wax and threading. Oh, but don't be upset that I'm telling you here in front of all your friends and family."

Maybe it's a Russian thing.

5. Liberals are generally idealists

So when reality fails to live up to our ideals we point that out in an effort to make our ideals into reality.

However, because this usually takes the form negative criticism it can appear as if we are against the thing we are trying to improve.

You can see this nationally when conservatives try to claim that we do is criticize the country. They don't understand that our critiques are an attempt to get things fixed and improve the country as a whole. To live up to the ideals we have created.
