Today's attack took place on the 2nd floor of the airport, which is where the security area and boarding gates are located.
The officer's condition was just upgraded from critical to stable. Police departments from the entire county, and beyond, are at the airport. The suspect has been arrested.
Nobody is being allowed in or out of the Airport. Flint City Hall has been placed on heightened alert and the FBI has been called in and they are taking the lead in the investigation. There was supposed to be a press conference at 11, but it has not yet happened.
This is the 2nd evacuation in 2 weeks. On June 8 the airport was evacuated, when a suspicious package was discovered.

(101,316 posts)The FBI, with our local, state and federal law enforcement partners, is jointly investigating this incident to determine the nature and motive for the attack. We are aware of reports that the attacker made statements immediately prior to or while attacking the officer, but it is too early to determine the nature of these alleged statements or whether or not this was an act of terrorism.

(26,262 posts)Of course, they've been saying that since about 11, this morning. The airport is still closed and they have dogs sniffing at all of the cars in the parking lots.
There's a Southwest flight that is stuck at Midway Airport, but they did let the Delta flights from Atlanta and Minneapolis land, and let the passengers disembark.
I'm only a few miles from the airport, and I am so accustomed to hearing the planes landing and taking off. I'm not hearing anything, now, except for an occasional police helicopter.
