An Asteroid Strike On Earth Is Just A Matter Of Time, Say Experts

Dying in a fiery ball of rock and ash doesn’t exactly sound like the best way to go, but experts have warned that modern civilisation may indeed face the same fate as the dinosaurs.

A leading astrophysicist has warned of the danger that unexpected asteroids pose to our planet, and classified the threat not as a matter of if, but when.

Professor Alan Fitzsimmons claimed it is just a matter of time before the inevitable occurs, and we’ve just got to hope it lands somewhere away from human populations rather than near a city which it could “easily destroy”.

Big earthquake swarm last week had all the apolcalyptic nutcases on You Tube hyperventilating with glee.

but the frequency has dropped to just about zero since almost all the potential strikers have already hit something. Unlike Earth, the moon has no tectonic activity, so the evidence of strikes doesn't get erased like it does here.

We are also eventually going to have an eruption of a super-volcano - like the one under Yellowstone - which may do more damage to living things than an asteroid strike.

In other words, humans may not actually end up being the cause of the next extinction event, although we are certainly doing our best.

are getting older, in 40 years most us will not be around anymore. The new generation doesn't understand the time and dedication we put in to keep the world safe.

Mega tsunamis are no fun.

The odds are against that, however.

All I ask for is time to eat a good gourmet meal, drink a special bottle of wine and still have time to double over and kiss my butt goodbye.
