GA is far, far right, always has been.

I remember making calls for LBJ in 1964, got mostly negative responses. It was discouraging then, and what happened in GA 06 is discouraging now. But certainly not surprising.

I think there is tension between the city of Atlanta and its suburbs and the reason is race. Atlanta is a small island--something like 435,000 people in a metro area of around five million. Neighborhoods are incorporating in order to keep Atlanta and all those blacks at arm's length. In essence, they are boxing Atlanta in. We lived within the city limits for close to 40 years, moved to New Mexico for 10 years, and when we came back five years ago there were towns I'd never heard of. We live in the far northeastern suburbs now--we couldn't afford the city when we came back--and I'm amazed at the number of young people out here who say they are afraid of Atlanta.

And then there are people like the man Mr. Thirties worked with for years. I always liked him, was astounded when he told me he was a Republican. He added that he used to be a Democrat "back when we all were Democrats." Meaning he was a Democrat when the Democrats were actually Dixiecrats. He's 78 now, says he mostly watches television news. I can guess which channel. I cried the night Reagan was elected, and during W's time I realized it's really a matter of morality. And Trump? God help us.

And those Northern Atlanta suburbs are very rich, very white, and very Republican.

Our state voted for Trump. But we were more purple than either Iowa or Ohio.

... its because the burbs are trying to racially segregate via incorporation laws.
