(297,670 posts)Wonkette: There's an actual reason why the GOP hates Nancy Pelosi,
which is that shes incredibly good at her job.
Did you know that, according to CNN, there was a House Democratic caucus meeting on Wednesday, and Nancy Pelosi had the utter who the fuck does she think she is audacity to say that, even though they lost this years special elections, Democrats are looking really good in a lot of other districts currently held by Republicans? What the fuck, Nancy, with your facts and shit? What good are they even? Facts are for the establishment, a convenient label we use for whomever we feel like attacking that day!

(90,805 posts)She earned her position as Speaker, she earned her constituents' votes, she earned her position as minority leader. And iirc she didn't denigrate others in order to build herself up. Nancy just works really hard and really smart.
He and his cohorts should try that.

(39,380 posts)I hope we can do better. Ryan IMO is not that good on his feet; I'm a white guy from Ohio is just another stale bit of ID politics at the end of the day.

(68,685 posts)I called his office today. He could not be speaker as he is in sadly what is more red than purple Ohio...the Speaker has to come from a blue blue district. Why should we get rid of our speaker because the GOP said so. What the left doesn't get is a centrist will work with Trump.

If the Republicans don't like her it means she is doing her job. The leaders will throw a name out like meat and their followers will attack it like pitbulls. This is just what they do. It is visceral.

(5,326 posts)If he has a beef with Pelosi he needs to express it behind closed doors with the right people. Democrats in the house would do well to study the tactics used by Newt Gingrich in the 90's and start using them. Not only did the Newtster succeed in the GOP takeover of the house, he was also elected speaker for his efforts. So if Ryan wants to unseat Pelosi, Gingrich laid out a clear and effectively way to do it.

(32,731 posts)If only dems like Tim Ryan, Bernie, Rice, Ford, etc. put as much time and energy into explaining what's at stake if the ACA is repealed as they do tearing down other democrats, we'd be in a lot better shape right now. As I said before, I don't hear from these folks...and when they finally speak out, THIS is what the topic is?? Really??

(146,331 posts)Nancy Pelosi won, instead. I'm sure he didn't like that outcome. But, that is how leadership is chosen in the House of Representatives. In reality, none of us have any say in who House members elect to lead the Democratic caucus, except that we vote for our own district's representative.
Many DUers have Republicans representing their districts, so they can't even contact them about the Democratic leadership. Their reps don't have a vote.
If Tim Ryan had the support of a majority of his peers in the House, he'd be the Minority Leader. He is not the Minority Leader, because he did not have that support. Nancy Pelosi did.
I'm sure he thinks he'd do a better job, but he ran and lost. In January of 2019, there'll be another opportunity, if he wins re-election in his own district. He can try again.

(11,257 posts)In those two years, she shepherded through Obamacare, the first version WITH a public option, and the one without (to appease the Senate), cap and trade, Dodd-Frank, student loan reform, and the Lily Ledbetter Act.
Feel free to add to my list of I missed anything.
House Dems know this, which is why Tim Ryan couldn't beat her fair and square last January. Now he's trying to smear her to do an end around that vote. He should be ashamed.
