Trump goes there and opens his yap promising the moon and 200 are losing their jobs. Oh yeah, shows you how being non-union is NO guarantee of keeping a job. This would be the same Boeing who received tax breaks here in Wichita for oh....50-60+ years and then blew town. Yup run down to SC and sign up a load of workers just begging to work for non-union wages to build aircraft costing $200-300 million a pop.

(6,933 posts)If you lived in Wichita and saw the ABUSE that happened here and what SC went through to get them to leave here and move there you'd get it. I'm one of the taxpayers that footed those massive tax breaks that Boeing received here while my property taxes do nothing but go up.
Boeing.....Another bunch who has tried repeadedly to bust their union into dust--and the SC move was their big shot across the bow. The workers in Washington are hanging TOUGH and sticking their neck out and I stick with them.

(9,291 posts)Was so proud of bring that company, with those great paying jobs to South Carolina.
So happy we moved, almost sold the house to a Boeing worker. Boeing workers won't find another job that pay like this. Oh well, they voted against the union too.

(6,933 posts)Know the whole story here or just posting? How many LOST good paying union jobs in Wichita when this move to SC happened. Boeing had been here since about 1930 when Boeing bought Stearman. Let me give you a clue MORE than 200 HIGH paying union jobs went away.
Oh and losing jobs?? Ask around about what happened when Boeing supposedly "sold" production to a new Company called Spirit (many claim Boeing owns it) here and how many who had 15-20-30 years with Boeing got CANNED and were never told why. Gosh...wonder WHY Boeing/Spirit would get rid of people with 20-30 years service and at the TOP paygrade...duhhhhhhh.
There was a class action lawsuit that never went anywhere because of the money Boeing had to squash it. Workers were thrown out of a job litterly overnight when DHL delivered their "YOUR FIRED" notices on a Saturday and Sunday and workers didn't need to report to work on Monday.
The whole sceniero behind that move to SC was DIRTY and nothing but an attempt at union busting. Yeah, laughing at what's happening IS progressive of me.

(6,933 posts)You don't need to pay Union wages when you have us here in SC. They voted overwhelming to not be represented by the machinists union and Boeing packed up and left Wichita.
Boeing didn't close here and move to SC just for the scenery,it's was 100% for NON UNION wages they would get to pay and of course SC throwing buckets of CASH at them just like Wichita and Kansas did for decades to keep Boeing here.

(5,325 posts)I will never laugh at the thought of people losing their jobs. Didn't laugh when it happened to the workers in Ohio and won't now. You hate the corporations and take it out by delighting at the misfortune of working people.
And if you'd been out of work for awhile and had little or no safety net, I'm sure you'd turn down a chance at a non-union job that pays well. After all, the kids are too fat anyway, right?
Pretty low to enjoy other people's troubles so much.

(6,933 posts)And those jobs went where to Mexico? I wouldn't be laughing at them in Ohio either but I'd laugh MY ASS OFF if the Mexicans who took those jobs away lost their job if production was moved back to Ohio. So you'd stick up for those Mexican jobs though and I guess a load of non-union Trump voters in SC??
I live here in Wichita, this wasn't an expansion by Boeing it was an EXTERMINATION of union jobs here for NON UNION jobs in SC.

(5,325 posts)Again, apparently, according to you, they should have passed on decent-paying jobs that Boeing was offering even though that wouldn't have saved the jobs in Wichita.
Bengus81
(6,933 posts)Again....Boeing isn't going to spend MILLIONS to move for a change of scenery. They do it to save hundreds of millions in labor costs while the CEO and upper management pays themselves MILLIONS per year in salary and perks. If each place they looked was going to have a labor union like the one here the move would have been a ridiculous expense for no gain. So YES it would have saved those HIGH paying union jobs in Wichita.
I don't fault anyone in SC for taking their Boeing job,but they made their bed and decided to go the non-union route and they KNEW there would be a huge ax falling on jobs in Wichita and it DID. So am I crying because a load of those Trump non-union workers lost their job?? Hardly, even though THEY bought into his BS and Boeings as most are convinced that union jobs will have lay offs but non union jobs are safe.
Pfftttt...no wonder we LOSE election after election after election.

(53,072 posts)the LOL in regard to workers losing jobs, though certainly I understand wanting to see Trump with egg on his face.

(6,933 posts)While the Repukes LOVED and LAUGHED to see Boeing move and union jobs HERE by the hundreds leave for non union jobs there. Most STILL don't get what happened in this whole scenario. They think that Boeing just expanded, everyone kept their jobs, new jobs created in SC and then 200 got layed off. Hardly, this was an entire SHUT DOWN in Wichita (after 80 years of tax breaks and perks) to show how they'd KILL union jobs if they could find another place willing to work non union and that's what they did.
Yeah shucks...let's all feel sorry for those Trump voters who lost jobs (HUGE Trump rally at Boeing in SC) until ALL union jobs are gone, which Repukes have SUCCESSFULLY been doing now for over 30 years.

(2,120 posts)I'm with you, Bengus. If people voted for Trump or couldn't be bothered to vote at all due to apathy, laziness or that old "the two parties are exactly the same" saw, tough shit. Fuck 'em. I have zero compassion.
If a Trump supporter ends up in a homeless shelter eating at a soup kitchen, hey, they got the vision of America they wanted. Guess they should have worked harder instead of being a "taker" and should thank those "know it all liberals" who think housing and feeding the poor and downtrodden is a good idea. Otherwise they'd be in a cardboard box eating out of a dumpster.
The ones who voted for Hillary deserve compassion, as I'm sure you agree, but this teaches a lesson to people who race out to vote for a con man promising ponies or lollipops as well as those who believe voting isn't worth their time. MAKE it worth your time or else this kind of shit is what happens.

(6,933 posts)I RESPECT the union workers in Wichita that got canned over this move to SC that was NOTHING but union busting. SC told Boeing to beat a path to THEIR door and don't worry about any union problems, all our workers will gladly work for half of what they get in Wichita or LESS.
But hey....let's all give em a big ole' fat group hug and hurry on to our next election LOSS.
