Here's his statement https://www.toomey.senate.gov/?p=news&id=1940
"This measure does not pull the rug out from anyone currently covered by Obamacare, and keeps the Medicaid expansion covering able-bodied, working-age, childless adults, while asking the states to eventually contribute their fair share for this care. Further, this bill works to ensure Medicaid is sustainable for future generations by modestly reducing, seven and a half years from now, the rate at which federal spending on the program will grow.
"I will thoroughly examine this draft and welcome all feedback from my fellow Pennsylvanians in the coming days."
I called his Pgh office, got no answer and the voicemail inbox was full. I called his DC office and got no answer, but was able to leave a voicemail.

(9,287 posts)he wrote the bill! He is a Club for growth mouthpiece.
If Pennsylvania has to foot the "fair share"Medicaid bill, Darryl Metcalf will be faced with the prospect of raising taxes on the rich or not funding someone's heart operation. I think we all know how that will end.
But I think it's great you put up the contact info, can't hurt.

(7,939 posts)Call your republicon senator right now.
Senate staff and the media are closely tracking how many people are speaking out right now to gauge whether the public is tuned in. This is one of those five-alarm-fire moments when every call matters. Here's where to call:
Sen. Toomey - (202) 224-4254
Then click here to let us know you called, so we can hear your experience and share with the media just how many calls MoveOn members made.
If this bill becomes law, tens of millions of people will lose access to their health care. Many people who are currently healthy will go without the preventive care they need and get sick. And some people who are sick now will die unnecessarily.
That's why we're organizing rallies, running ads, and working around the clock to defeat this bill and protect and improve coverage for all Americans.
We need to light up every Republican senators phone linesright now and until this bill is voted on or killedto show Senate Republicans that there is fierce public opposition to Trumpcare. Please pick up the phone and call your Republican senator right now. Here's where to call:

(11,257 posts)I'm not from PA, but have followed his career from neighboring MD. The guy was a fire-breathing conservative in the House. He challenged Arlen Specter in the GOP primary in 2004 on the basis that Specter wasn't conservative enough. And he headed the Club for Growth.
He's absolutely itching to vote for Trumpcare.

(284 posts)Senator Toomey, my name is ______. I live in _____, PA. Ive been following with great interest the attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act and to replace it with legislation that trades the health insurance of millions of Americans for tax cuts for the rich. And I find it to be most disturbing to find out that you led the push in the Senate to make the devastating cuts to Medicaid. Medicaid is the program in this country that provides health insurance to one in five Americans, of which 30 million are children and 67% of the people in nursing homes. Included in that group are hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvanians, a number that could grow to over a million in the next ten years. I also find it equally disturbing that handicapped individuals who were peacefully protesting outside Senator McConnells office were physically removed by the capital police for doing nothing more than exercising their right to free speech. But I guess that should be expected, since although you claim that you received lots of outside input, this bill was drafted by 13 men without one single woman or public hearing. Senator Toomey, with all due respect, you work for the citizens of Pennsylvania, not the RNC, not the Club for Growth, and not for any of the other special interest groups that fund your campaigns. It is my hope that you would consider not only that fact, but also the life-threatening impact that this bill would have hundreds of thousands of your constituents and millions of Americans, and as such would go back to the drawing board to come up with a solution that addresses the concerns of the 95% of the people in this country who are not making $250,000 per year or more.

(9,275 posts)I will call with this message. Since he wrote the thing it's not going to do any good but it's good to try. Will people remember this in 5.5 years?

(63,225 posts)You can call/write/email Toomey to ask him to change his vote, or you can stand on your head in a bucket of manure for an hour.
Each will have exactly the same impact on his vote.
He is bought and paid for many times over.

(15,290 posts)want Dems to do. Even if you don't personally think it will make a whit of difference, you can still call and add your voice. You can tell Toomey in 5 years, you'll remember his vote and remind others of it.

(63,225 posts)However, me trying to tell Toomey anything is roughly equivalent to me writing it on toilet paper and hiding the note in a forgotten cave somewhere. It is a gesture that would have zero value.
He has job security for half a decade, and he will certainly receive all the funding he could ever want when he runs for reelection. My disgust at his actions in the meantime won't affect that certainty in the slightest.

(5,559 posts)We need to lower the bill rather than squabble over who pays it.
I suggested limits on hospital and pharmaceutical marketing spending, and pharma price reform.
Also simplified and transparent hospital billing. Some hospitals have more people in their billing depts than they have hospital beds!
