RawstoryHopes of single payer supporters across the country were dashed Friday night when the Democratic Speaker of the California legislature killed a single payer health insurance reform bill by written by California Democrats.
California Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon announced Friday afternoon that he was hold on the bill to bring universal, single-payer health care to the most populous state, effectively killing the bill for at least the rest of 2017.
I have decided SB 562 will remain in the Assembly Rules Committee until further notice, Rendon said in a statement.
* I'm reading a post on another site that explains that it is just on hold - to wait and see what the republicans do with ACA or AHCA - it is not dead - just on hold

(16,672 posts)The opposition was getting ahead on scaring everyone over spiraling costs etc..even though none of that had even been calculated. They need to work on educating the masses as they try to push this through.
I am disappointed but we really need to get ahead of the BS from the right as much as possible.

(16,672 posts)People simply do not understand how it'll work. In their mind they'd have to pay for something they'll never use if they have insurance at work etc.. No cost estimates and all that stuff. They're going to fear it until they get real stats - and even then the right will continue to use scare tactics.
It can be done.. but if they don't do it right they may not get a chance again for some time.

They were moving surprisingly fast for a state effort where federal health plans cover 50% or so of patients/people.
