More right-wing selective amplification: Fox, White House talking about Loretta Lynch

The secret to right-wing control of American public debate is selective amplification. This is where they choose a small point that by all rights should get little attention. Then, they use coordinated talking points across several media sources, and across several days, to repeat this small point over and over again until the mainstream media picks it up.

The current example is Loretta Lynch.
The real issues today are how the president:
- Obstructed justice by asking Comey for a loyalty oath and firing him
- Tampered with a witness by lying about the existence of tapes
- Openly asked a foreign power to interfere in our election

But Fox News is talking about a different, small point that should be forgotten. And they're repeating what the White House says. This is how misleading, distracting narratives get amplified.

If we don't recognize this PR technique the right uses to manipulate American public debate -- selective amplification -- we are bound to lose in 2018.

Get something in front of someone 12-16 times and the likelihood of them "buying it" shoots through the roof

3. Exactly! It's simple psychology. Goebbels knew this, and did this

The one thing I'll add - you need to get something in front of people 12-16 times, but it has to come from several *different* sources.

That's why the GOP media surrogates and talking points are effective. Americans hear the same mistruth a few times from a few different GOP surrogates on different media, and it seems very trustworthy.

This is how humans' brains are wired up. We must recognize this PR method. (George Lakoff and Masha Gessen best reading on this today; also Orwell and Goebbels of course)

House and Senate investigations, perhaps? And then what?

Oh, I get it. They want to fire her.

7. Well, of course. But asking that question is fatal to their case.

Sometimes I wonder whether it's US that're getting the fake news and everything is upside down.

And then I notice all the irrational and indefensible positions their news requires of them, and I know that up IS up and FOX is FOX and those people are being taken for a ride.
