"No Regrets for Trump Voters" - Salon Article

This is the best article I've read on why core Trump Voters won't budge in their support.

It doesn't tell the whole story, but accurately describes their cognitive dissonance and deep seated tribal nature of their loyalty. An attack on Trump is perceived attack as an attack on their opinions, tribal affiliation, and self-worth.

Bottom line:

It's useless to try to convince Trump voters to change their minds. They’re just too good at coming up with excuses for why they should keep standing by their man.

That said..., the capacity for denial in Trump voters is not bottomless. It’s just that the scandals and corruption are unlikely to move the needle much, since those things can be rationalized away.

But most... experts thought it’s possible that if the president’s policies (especially if he signs the Republican health care bill) start to affect Trump voters’ finances or well-being, many of them will be unable to keep telling themselves he’s a good guy who is just besieged by the mean-spirited liberals in the media.
--------------------------------------------
This is consistent with my observations. The only thing that could effect their support is Trump acting in a concrete, undeniable manner that hurts their finances or well-being personally.

That's why if Dems want to burst that big vulnerable Trump bubble, drive a wedge between Trump and them by pointing out his economic and healthcare policies hurt them personally. Trump is NOT YOUR BUDDY. That's a fact, and forces him to lie, be on the defensive, and show his mean side. It plants doubt.

If there's a policy disaster, they're very likely to be able to shirk responsibility. Maybe blame obstructionists, or maybe "who coulda foreseen", or maybe blame Obama.

But if the economy tanks, that's something presidents get held responsible for, even if they really couldn't have done anything.

as long as they allow me to feel as I feel. Sadly, a lot of Trump fluffers I know would love to convert me to their ways. Not happening as long as I'm living and breathing!

5. Some of Trump's voters would love for all social programs to be cut, and it wouldn't hurt them.

The ones who will eventually turn on Trump are their useful idiots, such as whites who overreacted to seeing African Americans rioting on TV. They voted against their own economic interests and they'll learn the hard way that they made a mistake.

That WAS done the entire fucking campaign but they didn't listen, and they didn't care. They fixated on other things he said that were non-economic and non-healthcare-related.

"They" heard -

"Deport all those bad hombres! Build a wall!!111!!"
"Ban ALL Muslims from coming in the country!11!!"
"Second Amendment people" could act (against Hillary)!!1!!!!"
"Drain the swamp!11!!!!1"
"I love the poorly educated!1!!!"

The core supporters are irredeemable but he won because people held their nose and voted for him.

They don't care about Russia because he's made them believe it's all fake news and a witch hunt. But they may start to notice those Carrier jobs going to Mexico, Ford jobs going to China and Boeing jobs being eliminated. If the heinous ACA repeal bill is passed, they'll notice that too, but not until it goes into effect and actually starts to cause problems.
