Democrats Losing Is Because of the Way the Party Does Elections

People can blame the moderates or the Progressives but, the reason democrats are losing is in a whole other area.

The party and its leaders stopped going to the ground. They rely on computer programs, diagnostics and other fancy programs.
That is all well and good for basic, general information but, computers cannot do Human Nature.

Programs don't do Human Nature.

To a degree, living by programs and computers and avoiding the actual people, even those in red districts to introduce yourself, ask for their vote and listen to their concerns foster the idea and reputation of elites in an ivory tower.

You need to talk and listen to people. People come in all stripes. And many who may like a democratic candidate will switch to a republican one with one long talk by a family member or friend because they are many times confused on issues. And democrats do not fight back smears so, that confused voter is left with a wrong impression

Democrats also do not talk in plain language. Too many times they will give a White Paper answer to a question and you are going to lose people's attention, especially these days, with these long intellectual answers. Democrats lost the ability to give explanations that speak to average people ever since Bill Clinton left.

Democrats have bad strategists and managers and leaders who have lost touch with the average person.

And before those mistake what I mean by an average voter, I am talking of people of all walks of life who are busy.

My daughter is divorced with a demanding job and 2 little girls. Her life is running them to school or camp, going to work, picking them up, groceries, laundry, homework, ect., ect. You know the drill. She does not have time to surf the web and read various blogs or watch news. She has an idea of issues but, not alot of details. She simply does not have the time. To explain she needs it to be short, clear and understandable. What she doesn't understand, she will ask the questions.

I write this because this is the life of many people. Rushing, running, getting ready, family, work, friends, ect.

Democrats need to craft messages that speak to these people and to understand them. They need to have face to face/door to door.

The party also needs to get its act together in strategy and ideas.

The last good DNC chair we had, Howard Dean, knew this. And that was the last time the party was successful.

3. What? DNC is so behind the Repubs in apps, tech and microtargeting that it's a joke.

How is anybody supposed to canvass without better data and without better technology?

Problem one - We had ONLY two volunteers during the last week to canvass our district for Hillary and we needed at least 20 to be able to walk even part of the turf.

Problem two - And why did they hand us printed turf maps like it was 2008? For Bernie, we had a slick VAN app that worked on our smart phones and all the data was up-to-date. For Obama, yeah, we had printed turf, but we worked each voter, mostly on the phone. We got commitments and we touched each voter a minimum of SIX TIMES and monitored the county clerk for when their vote came in. If they hadn't voted by election day, we drove to their house/apartment. But with Hillary they gave us our printed turf on clipboards with seriously OUTDATED voter info. These people had not even been touched even once usually. One out of three was wrong, dead, or moved. Somebody didn't think they needed to scrape every vote or to pay for updated voter information.

Problem three - it is incredibly unsafe. I had four different men (registered Dems who voted for Obama in 2008) who YELLED AND SCREAMED at me, and one man told me NOBODY in his home had better vote for Hillary.

Problem four - Nobody physically canvassed for Trump. Their infrastructure was non-existent. They canvassed directly to people right through their computers. Microtargeting is where it's at and we can't go back. They reached people the only way you can these days, through the internet and social media using targeted messaging that focused on the voter's lifestyle and interests. When I would canvass for Hillary, I would find 5 people home (not at work or out) for every 20 doors.

GOING TO HOMES IS A WASTE OF TIME. Everybody works 50 hours a week, or takes the kid to soccer, or has two jobs. I'd walk for FOUR HOURS, and maybe talk to five people at home.

Problem five - the people we need to talk to probably don't live in houses anymore. Most younger democrats (under 40) live in apartments or campus and could have several roommates. It's hard to keep up with the addresses and data. BUT IT STILL EXPECT THEM TO DO IT. The Hillary turf completely ignored and avoided all apartment buildings. How are you going to reach your voters if you DON'T WANT TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO REACH YOUR VOTERS?

I've been sending money every month to the DNC for 20 years - I wonder what they do with it?

6. Yes, they need data, but he is talking about how to better talk to the people at the door which MUST

happen. Talking to people face to face is the most effective thing, like it or not. I agree you have to do the apartment buildings.

I think you're making some great points about messaging and the technology for its delivery

But it's a mistake to think people will make a thorough examination of issues and party platforms, when there are only a few issues that interest people to begin with

9. I live in Cortland Ohio...I have worked with Democratic Party during elections for years.

We knock on doors. We visit every Democrat multiple times with brochures that present information about our candidates. We are on a first name basis with most folks. We get invited in for coffee often...and occasionally a door slammed in our face...it happens but we persist...I did the same thing in other places before I moved here. I don't know what party you are talking about, because I am boots on the ground and spent election day knocking on doors and making sure our people had voted and to see if they needed a ride or something...our polls were changed just before the election ...We got the message out and even drove people to vote in early voting. You are wrong...and every place I have lived has such an organization. Maybe you should knock on a few doors during the next election instead of knocking the Democratic Party. Oh and Cortland went for Hillary. We also used Facebook extensively.

10. Try repugs cheat. Until we stop their cheating we will continue to lose.

It's not that complicated.

We have to have as concerted and determined an effort to combat repug cheating as we do our get out the vote effort because repugs work to suppress out votes as hard as we work to get them counted.
