Sen Schumer indicated tonight a list of 12 Senators wavering on the health care bill: CALL them!

From a friend:
Just got off a healthcare coalition call with Senator Schumer. His message:
1. Grassroots pressure will determine whether this passes.
2. They're not seeing nearly the response there was to the House bill. That needs to change.
3. It's make or break this week. Unlikely McConnell will drag this on past next week because he wants to move on to tax cuts.
4. The following Senators are wavering and need to be flooded with contacts:
1. Dean Heller is the most important: NV: 202-224-6244
2. Susan Collins: ME: 202-224-2523
3. Lisa Murkowski: AK: 202-224-6665
4. Shelley Moore Capito: WV: 202-224-6472
5. Bill Cassidy: LA: 202-224-5824
6. Jeff Flake: AZ: 202-224-4521
7. Cory Gardner: CO: 202-224-5941
8. Rob Portman: OH: 202-224-3353
9. Ted Cruz (yes, that Cruz - he's facing a tough reelection battle): TX: 202-224-5922
10. Rand Paul: KY: 202-224-4343
11. Mike Lee: UT: 202-224-5444
12. Ben Sasse: NE: 202-224-4224
IT TAKES ABOUT A MINUTE EACH. PLEASE CALL.

I'm calling mine, but they're well and truly deplorable and not amicable to my calls. Yet, I'm persisting. As we all should.

then they couldn't care less about what you have to say. In addition, you may be blocking an actual constituent of theirs from getting through on the phone.

He fully supports this bill, what he knows about it. He expressed one thing: He wants enough time to review it thoroughly. So he won't vote for it, if he doesn't get enough time. I don't call that wavering.

But I recently moved to La. and am a registered voter, so I'll call him and urge him to consider the effect on those who are on Medicaid. His big concern about Medicaid is that his state, which expanded Medicaid, will have to foot the bill for that expansion soon, if it's not repealed or if the state doesn't kill the expansion.

He's so afraid of his constituents that he won't even hold a town hall. Will do my best to see he's out on his ass come midterms. He is NOT loved here.

Reelection is not an issue. Texas is full of dummies. Him and Cornyn just spent three days with the Koch's. Cruz wants the bill to be meaner, but I'm sure he'll vote for it if it isn't.

There is a good chance that Rand Paul will vote no.

There are 5 senator's names that are new/different: Flake, Cruz, Paul, Lee, and Sasse. I got an idea at an Indivisible protest to get actual addresses of empty homes from Zillow listing in each state. A cell phone number can be from any state. In the past I used addresses from public libraries. They never check. If the line is not busy then you aren't wasting a real constituent's time. I have called all 100 senators (3X each) and about 100 congressmen since Jan on the ACA and to release his taxes and Russian Independent Investigation. PLEASE CALL!

I do visit them, and I always worry about them, and some of them are seriously worried about potential loss of Medicaid. Have a sister in Ohio, for example, and nieces in Maine and Arizona.

They'll usually ask for zip codes. I give my relatives' ones, because after all, when I visit, I stay with them.

One more thing - and this of course applies more to unruly Dems: IF YOU DONATED TO THEIR CAMPAIGNS, seems to me you have a right to weigh in. That makes you a constituent of a different type. As I once told Heidi Heitkamp's office in North Dakota when I called about some issue - true, I don't live in North Dakota. But she was VERY happy to take my California money when she was running for the Senate. She didn't turn it down OR send it back because it came from outside North Dakota, or because I wasn't a direct constituent. Therefore, as her underwriter and bankroller, she is definitely going to hear from me now.

Btw - I joined our local Indivisible group and I know well that they advocate keeping your activism to your own local reps. And by all means, DO! But I see reasons why your speaking up to reps in other states should not necessarily be 100% ruled out. After all, if your aging dad or your brother and his family live elsewhere, you absolutely have a stake in their wellbeing and their rights and in this case, health care (!) - even if you yourself don't live in their state.
