Take a minute to read this personal account of Our Revolution by Yankovich campaign manager Lauren Young:
"I think it is important to share what happened yesterday because my candidate is David Yankovich for Congress, Democrat running for Paul Ryan's seat.
We had 3 events scheduled, but on Friday night David turned to me (Like candidates freaking do!) and says "I want to go to Revolution", the founding convention for Our Wisconsin Revolution, the first state offshoot of Bernie's group.
His reasoning, "they are talking about unity and making things work, and 2018 will be massive if we can help the party come together. I feel like I need to go there and listen to them & let them know I am all about a big blue wave."
I cancelled our other events.
We drove 3 hours to the convention & as soon as we got there we were thrown out.
No, I am not kidding.
We went to the breakout groups for Congressional Districts. As soon as we introduced ourselves (to the 10 or 12 people there), David was asked who he voted for. Yes, he was given an immediate purity test and this group was hostile.
He voted Bernie in the primary then voted Hillary in the general. This did not please the group. Apparently the correct answer was to not have supported the Democratic nominee over Trump?
They told us they wanted us to leave, that they didn't want us to learn their secrets.
David attempted to calm their fears, "I'm not a spy, I'm hear to listen and for unity."
Again, we were told to leave.
I don't ever air my grievances in public but I am fed up with this. If this is their idea of unity, then this is a sign of massive Republican success in 2018 if the left can't get their act together.
This was an official Revolution event."

The legitimate grassroots groups are far more likely to work with existing groups, to mobilize and GOTV. I like those groups, people like the ones who are associated with Indivisible.

Our Revolution will reclaim democracy for the working people of our country by harnessing the transformative energy of the political revolution. Through supporting a new generation of progressive leaders, empowering millions to fight for progressive change and elevating the political consciousness, Our Revolution will transform American politics to make our political and economic systems once again responsive to the needs of working families.
Our Revolution has three intertwined goals: to revitalize American democracy, empower progressive leaders and elevate the political consciousness.

(91 posts)When is this revolution going to happen? In truth, the country has been going backward for fifty years, swinging more and more to the right. Do you expect to make up that ground in a few election cycles? And if your revolution is to take place in the distant future, I pose a simple question. What about the next election? Is the next election at all relevant?

(29,674 posts)And I don't like to play people against each other.
The group mentioned only had a few members in attendance but claims to have a large grassroots base to draw on. If they're demanding loyalty tests then it's discouraging. They should be focused on listening to the candidates ready to fight for the district.
It makes me worry that with such division we could lose 2018.
(Oh, and I usually stop by every couple of weeks now unless there's a big news story. Most of the old Lounge Lizards I interacted with years ago are long gone. Besides, I'm using my time to actually fight on a local level. )

I guess I'm taking this post as an opportunity, after thought.. to conveniently regurgitate.
As to the greater good, perhaps. Certainly at the expense of the constituency. One simply can't establish familiarity in that short of time.
He'll be seen as an outsider regardless... I'm not saying that it's right, It's difficult for me to elaborate... and I don't know if the FIB/cheesehead metaphor would suffice.
