Little Girl with Rare Disease and Her Service Dog Have a Special Friendship: ‘I Pretty Much Love Everything About Him’

http://www.today.com/pets/service-dog-gets-best-day-ever-helping-young-girl-walk-t79021

A service dog credited with helping a young girl with a rare disorder learn to walk is being celebrated for his unwavering dedication and support.

For an entire day, George — a 2-year-old Great Dane — ate human food, played in the snow and received endless treats in between — enough to put the "wow" in "bow wow."

Dogs are just the best.

The only species that would miss us if we vanished.

Not that we deserve it, though....

it is hard going in public places with a service dog. So many people either do not know about service dogs and the questions that can be asked and which cannot be asked. We have had so many problems, from a mall security guard who would wait until our epileptic teenager was away from us and then go try and embarrass her, to store managers who try to throw us out, even getting on the stores PA system to yell at us. "You don't look disabled" or "That doesn't look like a service dog" it has been so bad our daughter hates to go out.

My heart goes out to that little girl, but she seems like she has a toughness that will carry her through it all!!!

who has an invisible disability, but I'm not aware of her having had those kinds of experiences. There's no excuse for people to behave like that.

Love to you and your daughter.

imho, people who put a vest on their mutts so they can take them anywhere should be shot. ok, not shot, but it ought to be a crime.

my dog is a therapy dog. he has a nice little bandana that he wears. few people would question me if i bought him a vest and sewed that patch on it. but he would be stripped of his certification if i ever tried to pass him off as a service dog.
i COULD take him anywhere w/o him causing the slightest trouble. but i would never, ever do that. but people who take their ill trained dogs on planes and into restaurants and other public places, wearing vests that anyone can buy on the internet are committing fraud and should be charged as such.

it is right up there w wearing military medals that you did not earn.
